Look I am all for good spelling' date=' I am a Pom through and through and pride myself on the fact that I can spell words most folks cannot pronounce. That said, I do beleive that being able to spell does not prove anything. I know people at the local university who have PHDs in Nuclear Physics who can't spell to save their lives. At the end of the day spelling is just a means of communicating efficiently, it does not, in any way, dicate how intelligent people are.

That said I still write out whole words when ever I SMS some one. This short hand "texting," drives me mad.

Only two spelling mistakes! LOL

When you are trying to sell something maybe it is worth attempting to write up your advert correctly. It's almost like handing in a CV without spellchecking it...

sorry but this cambridge university study only works if you firstly, know what letters are in each word, and secondly the "Words" are placed into a coherent sentence.  Otherwise the brain does not have "Anchor" points to connect to to unravel the "encoded" message.

So this study shows for highly literate people, spelling is not that important.  But this is an irrelevant point, as highly literate people would probably write with very few spelling or grammatic errors, and would also not want to read the gobbly-gook written on this forum.  So the spelling and grammar police are only there to protect their own sanity and poor reading habits.

You would be quite surprised as to what we actually read, these forums are a mere distraction for us.
