The expat cyclist Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I am amazed at how many punctures pro SA MTB'rs get! Burry Stander seems to puncture at least once on a race. Heymans, Buys, Knox etc. all punctured in the Eco ride. Oh what the reason be? I have not punctured in 7 months - running crossmark front and rear, tubeless, 30 - 28psi.
dirtrider Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 In my opinion it is because they all try and run the lightest tyres they can find ! And we all know they are about as punture proof as cheap govermunt condoms.

splat Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Its a mind set I dont fully understand. light tyres mean light bike etc, but obviously also means puncture prone.Standing on the side of the track with a flat while the race dissapears into the distance - dont they stand there and wish they had put better tyres on? It seems like its worth the risk...

It's one thing to ride a bike fast, it's another to ride it properly. That is why people think when they get a FS bike they can just ride over everything.

And then use much more energy to catch up again - thus you have to train harder to do the catch-up part! (Which will be easier with lighter tyres...:-) Huh????
