I have a small group of kids i ride with twice a week and on Saturday we did the short 10km Nissan Tyger Valley race and i have to admit MOUNTAIN BIKING IS *&%$#^& HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was more tired after riding there doing the 10km and riding home than after the Kremetart!!! I can still hardly walk!!

I also loved being the funrider being passed by the front guys and seeing how fast they go! If it wasn't for one of my little boys yelling "ALTIE OPPAS" Jock Green would have ridden right over me in the last 2km.

IT WAS FANTASTIC and i  just want to say anybody that did the Epic really is THE sh*t!!!

Bollocks. MTB isn't harder. You just needed a different skill set (which you can learn) and you used different muscle groups, and some of the same muscles in a different way to how you use them on the road. Lack of conditioning for a particular type of exercise doesn't make the exercise harder.

If MTB was easy...EVERYBODY WOULD BE DOING IT!!!

silly MJ... I never said it was easy. I said the comparison between the difficulty of road riding v MTbing, is not exactly linear.

I'm a mtb'er, and I feel which one of the dissiplines is the hardest depends on the amount of skills you have....

The way I see, when you race road real hard (it is freakin tough!!!).

To get yourself that kind of moeg when riding mountain bike you must have very good skills, otherwise you'll rest enough while negotiating the tough technical bits.....

But to ride the way Burry and Kevin do.....  thats the toughest!!

mtb race at 35km/h average!!  Dead

From my experience, MTBing is just more complex, more variables, more to conquer, more that can go wrong.

For me personally roading is "sitting and pedalling" and mtbing is an experience.  Got to love it.

then why do some people, after years of riding, still struggle with things like bunny-hopping, getting the front wheel over obstacles, etc? mountain biking is a discipline of cycling - much like tt, track, etc - to which you are either suited or not. reckon you can just learn to dirt jump a bmx?
