OK so I have had the sniffles for nearly 5 weeks now. Nothing serious just a small post nasal drip. I raced the last two weekends on the MTB and had an elevated heart rate during the races and reduced performance (although I still did pretty well). I have cut down on hard training for the last two weeks. (last week I did one gym session, a spinning class and a short easy ride) And this week I have done nothing at all (man that was tough!!)

I am supposed to be racing the Knysna 85km on sat but if anything the sniffles have gotten worse and I have a slight cough (just from the post nasal drip I think) I figured with the week of rest I would have gotten a bit better smiley5.gif

AAAARGH so what do I do?

my resting heart rate is pretty normal

No raised temperature...this is soooo frustrating being half sick

any advice?

My Dr told me: If it is the chest NO Riding, If it is the Sniffles train but at max 60% of HR. Would ask a Dr if I were u rather than have us mere mortals speculate about your health.

I've been in this situation so many times as well. Really sucks. You feel groggy in the morning but by the evening you feel ok to ride, then repeat the cycle for 2-3 weeks. But then I read about top guys racing the epic who are "sick" on the first 2 days and then recover to normal performance levels. What gives?

who knows....chikenrun4me.perhaps they are tougher than us mortals :) perhaps the drugs are the answer Dick :)

but this s frustrating. Today I feel the worst I have in the last two weeks, but its nothing bad - body feels fine it's just snot siekte in the head - feeling congested and very agitated with the waiting for this stupid thing to clear.

not sure how I would feel on the bike - I have been trying to rests, although work stress has not helped

Where are all the Doctors on this? Oh ja, picketing and proving white people can't dance/toi toi<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The little bit I know is that it can spread from a light "localized" infection to full blown respitory infection due to heavy exercise.  But I guess this is common knowledge..

I also have thus gut feel that it is sometimes better to get full blown flu and get it over and done with than sitting in the middle ground between being and not being sick for weeks. I recon hit it on Sat. See you out there.

I'm going to be riding in pretty much the exact same state as you, Brussel. Sick, but not sick - very frustrating!

I'm going to take it easy at the back with a friend. Personally I don't think one race is worth getting completely sick for...

You'll see us riding with blue/white bSOLVe/Microsoft branded kit, being very relaxed!

Brent also look at trying out some chronic antihistamines (Fexo180 or Fexaway). With the rather bad weather we have had for the last few weeks my sinus has gone monkeys on me.

Your nasal drip can be because of sinus and don't forget the farmers and their chemical sprays in your area!

Advantage with chronic over standard is it lasts for 24 hours instead of 12. No side effects. I've been on them for 2 years now! Also 3rd generation antihistamines do not make your drowsy. But do consult your doctor or at least your local chemist.
