MTB Highjacking..Alberton area

Joe' date=' only way it is going to get better is if we go out there, catch the baskets and beat the living shyte out of them.

We have to warn as many people aspossible and tell them never to be alone on that section.

Problem is they will then go and wait in another area to ply their trade. I am very much in favour of the former idea of catching them. Beat them senseless and then dump them into the river from the bridge.

I also like the idea of putting a remote detonation pipe bomb into the frame and detonate it when they are about 200 to 300m away. I won't have a bike anymore but at least they will not be able to take anyone elses bikes again.

SODS.

way too aggressive and messy for a monday am SlaveAngry

have to agree though, they need to be taught a lesson.

maybe Delgado has some Kazak Mafia connections we could contract to patrol that area this weekend

hopefully they do not spend much time on the hub and get cold feet before this plan can get executed

Really good info from Wendell' date=' specifics on everything, should be v useful to people riding on the sand roads down there.

But this sort of thing (quoted below) is really, really useless. Plenty of very decent folk do the same thing. A group of cyclists catches people's attn. The interpretation says more about the observer than the observed imo.

Passed two guys sitting against their white golf near the bridge at nampak on Sunday morning showing a lot of interest in the passing bikes - pointing to the frames and nodding to each other !! Riding in a bunch in that area is a must.
Perhaps so Joe if one is in a civil/normal society! But what would the odds be of the above to a betting man (i.e. no question of race and all those other human rights bollocks just win/lose cash?). This is far from a civil society so to me sadly everyone is a suspect till it shows otherwise!

Unfortunately the police are pretty powerless to act in cases like this. THere is so much other crime that they cannot attend to everything. I would very much like to set something up to catch these creeps and do them some grivous bodily harm, find a bridge and then dump them over it into the path of an oncoming truck.

Yeah, Trubes, hectic stuff for a Monday AM, but I am very tired of burying friends killed in vehicle hijackings, having my radio stolen and hearing of all my cycling buds being taken down. Crime is out of control so maybe it's time we stood up to them. Take the fakers down, hurt them and then send them back to their "kassies" so they can tell their mates that there is certain disaster if any of them get caught in the act of crime.

Oh, well, we can ony dream. These sods feel nothing for out lives or livlihoods and they will hurt us just as easily. Maybe the only language they will unnerstand is that of violence and retribution.

Revenge is sometimes a thing of great beauty.

Mornin Del - I think we've had this conversation b4; & i know i'm in a minority of one against Mux & the Colnago 4 - if not the Hub.

I think that generally you find what you're lookin for, so if you're hostile to folk you'll have more hostility in ur life. Rocket science, I know.

I think the Hub's view that torture and the death penalty was deserved for the guy stealing a pair of gloves was probably a little harsh and could get reduced on appeal.

I do like Slave's pipe-bomb-in-the-frame idea tho',  esp. if videoed.  Can't see the weight-weenies on the Steps goin for it; and then there's always the problem of hitting a pothole too hard and............BOOM.

I also ride in the area. Parallel to Klipriver, then right to ride parallel to R59. All the way down, cross the Lido route, carry on with the gravel road past the new brewery. to the Circus and back. Always ride alone, the other groups either to late or to slow for me.

Ride at Rietvlei occaisionally but would meet with groups to go out for longer rides.

Slave - i've been "priveledged" enough to hang around in crime ridden areas like Eldorado Park (Eldo's). Do you know what the local policemen do?? The drive around and arrest people for drinking in public and loittering. That's about it. So they cant give us that excuse. They get paid to deal with society's evils and if they dont want the task anymore they should let us know and sure there'll be some pipe bomb weilding cyclists out there. Trek67002009-07-27 07:30:18

Trek 6700,welcome to the hub. Please note the health warning:

This place is additctive and counter productive. The mods and fellow hubbers will not be liable for any side effects from prolonged exposure to this medium.

'k, on with the show.

I hear ya mate. The cops have become a bunch of lazy @ssed people who do very little. Then again, I would not accept that sort of "salary" to be shot at and put up with all the other cr@p that they do put up with.

So much is wrong with the whole system in my opinion.

I agree 100%. They do have a thankless job and we need to give them credit but i guess when it starts affecting us we become very biased towards ourselves.

Hmmm, I wonder what time all this occured, before light, between light and 10am, in the evening? It dos make a differance because this little road is actually very busy from 6.30am onwards. I know cos I run around there, and occassionally cycle down to the Circus and back (on my own) in summer - too cold now.!

It seems odd to me that someone on the road can be attacked like this (in, I am assuming daylight!) and not be seen / assisted by a passing motorist / trucker.!

If you ride there in the dark, well, you only have yourself to blame.

I have to say I have never felt nervous or even concerned in the area before, of course this may mean nothing, but I tend to go with the one of the other posters that hostility and revenge is not the answer. I cant see it achieving much, except to increase tension.

Probably best to just avoid the area for a while if you are on your own.

Its unfortunate we have to avoid areas, but maybe its just a short term thing and the officials will get on top of it.

Tongue this is the best..... cops at everite say only two incidents reported and that we are actually trespassing..... hey guy.... so is he.

Slave, sorry only getting back now, we are only doing MTB rides as I can't get back too late and I would be a bit hesitant on Chit Chat road ( RWB Road) for a while.

IanC.. you are welcome no matter what level you are..everyone started somewhere and also had guys to help them start.

The mornings were not supported but at 1pm Sat. And Sunday we will have a short ( 1.5 hour) out ride to warm up then do the trails on the farm.

Slave.. I can lend you a MTB to see if the bug bites....

Tuesday night rides are on the farm starting at 5.30/6.oopm about 2 to 3 hours depending on .... group, weather, battery life, dinner dates and a lot of other excuses... to cut them short.

Thanks Wendell, may just take you up on that offer of a loan bike. Terrified that the bug may bite 'cause then it'sjust a whole new buncha stuff to go out and shop for.

Porky, if it wasn't clear in my post, the latest incident involving my neighbour and friend, Garry, happend at about 11 am. Strangest thing is, without the warning of this thread, I would probably have been on that same road, similar time.

Not to say they would have taken my bike over GArry's, but one never knows, they may have taken both. I only left home at 10h30 on Sunday morning. There was a trucker that stopped to help. Otherwise it may have been more than just the bike. (Cell phones and who knows what else.)

Trek6700, yeah, the cops have a rough time of it, but hey, I pay my taxes and I have a reasonable expectation that they do what they are paid for. That s to combat crime and ensure the general safety of the public. Issues start to creep in though because the law in this fair land favours the criminally intent. That is just one of the things wrng with the system.

And then we can go further and say that the criminal justice system is a joke. Then again, we would be labelled racist and cosnsidered to be inciting public violenceand being political so let's just put the soap box away right now.

Suffice to say, those who are not fit to be cops shouldn't do the job and rather find something else. Like teaching or nursing, it's a calling. You do it because you care and not for the "salary".

I still say that the cops will do precious little about it and it will continue for some time to come.

In the interim, please make sure you are never alone on the section of road between the river and the bridge. Prevention is safer than cure.

As far as I am aware, Garry was jacked where the old railway line used to cross the road.

And to think I have been on that section of road alone sooo many times. Not going to happen again, for sure.

Once again Wendell, thanks for the head-up Thumbs%20Up

So for now dudes and dudesses, we will have to arrange special rides for those roadies like me who are too chicken to ride early in winter.

Anyone want to get a group ride going from 8 am for the next month or so? Meet at Rietvlei, do a loop together and be epsecially sure to be together in a group up the steps.
