Thanks for the heads-up Wendell.

Good to have this sortof intel. Helps plan ride routes.

Quick question: The group rides you planning, are they just for MTB or are you planning some road ride groups as well?

How safe is the Rand water road that runs parralel to Klip river at the back of the microlight air filed?

I know its self defense...but using that gun is going to land you in more trouble than anything else.

I have started riding on the trails at the farm' date=' and even though its the same trails, I'd rather ride knowing its a lot safer.

Thanks Wendell...

Saw some gammo air rifles that looks like a Buretta. Flash that thing around and it will send them running. Oh and anyone can own an air rifle without a licence. Shoot them if you like, hopefully it creates a rather large FLESH WOUND

Hiya Slave - stay off this road it's really unsafe for training.  You'll either die of boredom or seek to create excitement by throwin ur bottles @ funeral-bound taxis.

Either way it's a death trap.

3 held for robbing cyclist

2009-07-21 12:26

Johannesburg - Three men were arrested for allegedly robbing a cyclist of his bicycle and money at knife point in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg, on Tuesday, police said.

"The three, between ages 18 and 19, stopped a 37-year-old and forcefully took his bicycle and R300 cash on Monday morning," said Captain Mega Ndobe.

After the police gathered information from community members, the men were arrested and the bicycle was recovered on Tuesday morning.

They would soon appear in the Natalspruit Magistrate's Court to face charges of robbery and possession of a stolen bicycle.

Car hijack

In a separate incident in the same area, two men were arrested for possession of a car that had been hijacked hours earlier.

They were cornered while parking the car outside a house in the Phake section.

The vehicle was discovered to have been stolen in Primrose, Germiston.

The men would appear soon in the Germiston Magistrate's Court to face charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, said Ndobe.

I often ride out there alone early morning, rode out to the paper mill and along the old railway this morning. Don't think I will be doing that anymore. Nothing is sacred to these f#*ckers any more.

Cool. Glad to know that some of these fakers have been caught. (May they rot in hell.)

Problem is they are like flies, you kill one and twenty rush in to fill the gap.

Hugh, I live around here dude. I see some of them on some of "their bikes" and I often wonder, but that's another story we have debated on many threads.

Thing is, the "commuter" looking for a way to get to work won't ask questions about why a particular bike is cheap. He will buy it without question.

I do not believe the "market" needs to be extended beyond the township boundaries as there is a huge ready market right there. Most anyone would pay R200 for a bike and not know it's real value.

If they did, they probably would buy the bikes and then come sell them back to us.

Just my 5 zim dollars worth of opinion.

Can anyone confirm if there is a link between the two stories?

Yesterday at about 11am, my neighbour Garry, was jacked off his bike.

The MO was simple yet effective. GArry was chasing a small group of two ahead of himself up the steps. Three youths standing next to the road at the railway line crossing, grabed his handle bars as he passed, causing him to fall.

They then shot at him with catapaults ("Catties) to prevent him from fighting back. A passing trucker saw what was happening and stopped to help. At this time the youths fled with the bike.

Bike in question is a Ralleigh RC3000 road bike.

The matter has been reported to the police.

Fortunately Garry is not seriously injured even though he was hot twice by projectiles. Usual road rash is also in evidence.

Guys, (gals) do not venture into this area alone. You have been warned.

That's pretty rough Slave - I guess the other point is not to leave single cyclists by themselves going up the steps, I don't see how it's going to get better over there.

"Real Sad" I've been riding mtb for years in the area and never had any issues like this. I would definitely be interested in doing "Group" rides leaving from the farm. Count myself and my brother in for this.

Tx Wendall for the info.

Joe, only way it is going to get better is if we go out there, catch the baskets and beat the living shyte out of them.

We have to warn as many people aspossible and tell them never to be alone on that section.

Problem is they will then go and wait in another area to ply their trade. I am very much in favour of the former idea of catching them. Beat them senseless and then dump them into the river from the bridge.

I also like the idea of putting a remote detonation pipe bomb into the frame and detonate it when they are about 200 to 300m away. I won't have a bike anymore but at least they will not be able to take anyone elses bikes again.

SODS.
