Can't remember if I asked before, but does anyone have knowledge/experience with this product?

 

Is it even available in SA?

1. How much lighter can a cable really get?

2. How much stronger can it really be?

Hog yeah about 20-30g less.  Main thing is thats its kevlar type cord so no rust/corrosion and or stretch and fraying so theoretically they won't really need replacing...

That's not quite correct, over time the cables do stretch and fray, in my opinion they need replacing every 18 - 24 months. Du Point reccomends replacing the cables on a bi yearly basis.

20-30grams less? Why not skip that last mouthfull of pasta? It could save a fortune!

Or drill one hole in the crown of your MTB fork!

Ok well I guess I was sold on the marketing hype, I really thought this would be allot better than normal cables.

 

But I went to my lbs today and got new Jagwire Ripcord Teflon coated cables for R100, so I think I can afford to get new cables when needed, it's really cheap IMO.

Now that makes sense to me. And it wont cost a cable and life savings account either.

 

 Personaly im tired of oiling my cables after each muddy ride.

Look theres nothing worng with PowerCordz, as with every thing they have there place. I'll be honest they'll cost you in the region of $40 a cable which is hellishly pricey. Most of the time they're founf on 5 KG MTBS and such.Rather save the money and invest in other areas of your bike. You have a GT right? Real weight saving starts with rotational components. Wheels, shoes, cranks etc.

Yep 08 GT Zaskar Pro carbon, got it down from 11,6 to 10kg with pedals, 2 bottle cages, slapsock and watch/speedo mounted.  Main idea here isn't weight saving at all, better worry free shifting is... (or was hehe)

Then make sure you have a clean drivetrain and and clean gear cabling.
