i've had enough of this. i just read this in a bloomberg report?

The record seven-time champion might get more affection from the French public and support for his cancer charity ? Armstrong is losing the "selfish" image he has in France by agreeing to help teammate Alberto Contador, who's leading the race, said Pat McQuaid, president of cycling's ruling body. He's also winning over locals by promoting his charity, McQuaid said.
"Armstrong is more human, less arrogant and just nicer," Joseph Lemoigne, 63, a retired factory worker from Brittany, said at the finish of a stage to Le Grand-Bornand in the Alps. "The years soften you up."

lance didn't "agree" to anything?he has so far been soundly beaten by the youngster. his reluctance to work for contador from the start is being ignored. it's a bit late in the game to say he helped alberto. he didn't. he doesn't deserve any kudos for it. he played very little part in the victory. should, barring a disaster, contador finish in yellow, his achievement will be all that more impressive because, unlike lance, who always had an entire squad work for him, he had to work against a squad who have not given the support he clearly deserved and have dissed him in the press.

Its amazing how opinions differ. Here's a quote from a yank blog:

"My mind boggled as Contador screwed his own team over in what I

could tell was a rookie move from the second that ill-conceived attack

began.

Between his selfish race tactics, his attitude of vindication, that ridiculous ?pistol? salute ? really, it?s the pistol salute more than anything else ? I am finding it very difficult to cheer for that guy.

Contador?s definitely the fastest guy at Astana ? which is saying a lot ? but he?s no team leader."

there's the rub. he hasn't really been made to feel like he's the head of a team. it took 15 stages for lance to concede. he shoulda given up after the andorran stage.

Amazing how 2 people can watch the exact same thing and differ so much.

come, come, scotty?you know i'm no lance-hater, but there is such a lack of consistency in his comments during this tour.

Lance is playing the domestique role to contador and so was kloden until Alberto attacked him and dropped him, dont think he was to happy with that move.

UTTER CRAP?????? ...... most of you will know that any squad..... from the army to a cycling squad will be directionless and headless if there is no designated leader. If Bryuneel and the management team did not do that, we will not know will we?????, they are at "blame". Not one of us knows what ANY of the riders still has in reserve....... even though we may "profess" ourselves as excellent assessors of another persons apparent powers.

I agree...... this whole posting is "UTTER CRAP"!!!!!! A lot of wannabe cyclists trying to asses the best professional cycling team currently in cycling....... sit eerder voor die TV en munch nog peanuts en luiter na Phil..... you will be better off dong just that...... sheim!!!!!!!!

no he wasn't. he couldn't hold on when the foursome went clear. he marked wiggins only to protect himself. even without contador's attack, i reckon lance would've lost his position in the gc.

Its a matter of opinion, and critics will look at it differently If Lance was in that break and went for it isolating Kloden he would be slaughtered by his critcs, if lance had ignored wiigins who was a feared TT specialist as a threat and brought wiigins up to join kloden (and he showed he was able to), he would be slaughtered, if lance had not covered all the moves before the break he would have been called a wheel sucker. IMO the most stupid thing of the tour has been the selfish Contador move against his managers instruction.

Still Contador has been the best rider on tour, if he has not got his team support perhaps he should be asking himself why.
