I have avid elixirs and wanted to bleed them. I hate paying LBS if I can do work myself. And I also refuse to pay R300 plus for two syringes. So I made them myself:

Syringes R7.50

Catheter for the tube R5.95

5mm Brass bolts nylock nuts and o-rings R8.00

Small office clips R6.00

Superglue R13.00

Total cost: R36 !!

5 minutes of work on the lathe to drill holes and chamfer the bolts to slide on the tube.

works perfectly!

Haha, You beaute! Ive also done mine, I taped the leaver to the kitchen tap over the sink and then using a lighter I heated up the Syringes nip to thread into the caleper. Whalah!

Yours does look quite pro though..

I thought of doing something similar to that except the avid has a complicated bleed procedure and needs the tube clamped.

I also thought about having a small piece of plastic thread broken off in a lever or caliper smiley3.gif

That is a great looking set up. I've been waiting ages for CRC to get the Formula bleed kits in (as they are the cheapest), plus I'm running Formula breaks.

The only thing I would not be able to do is the lathe work and drilling the holes as I don't have access to a workshop smiley19.gif

What diameter hole did you drill through the centre?

you right super mil, Bruss, When youre on the "mill" again, drill some extras and swing it to us on the hub frr a sixpack a pairWink

Even though im 100% sure one can actually find those somewhere..

O rings - where can I buy very small O rings. I need them as buffers in the rotor assembly of my RC electric heli. I could not get them in Pretoria. They need to tightly fit over a 3mm feathering shaft. Eflite the manufacturer of the choppers sells them in packets with four each for R45-00. Rip-off methinks!!!!!! Also 2mm metric Nylock nuts, as scarce as hens teeth!!!!!!!

OK you'd have to check that your bleed ports are M5 threads. If not I can make them to any spec you like, but I'd guess that most systems use M5? FYI the hole is a 1.5mm which is perfect.

How would it sound if I do the two brass ferrules and post them to you in ordinary postage for R50? I am sure I can pop them in a envelope wrapped in some paper. You can source the syringes and tube locally.

Depending on how tight the tube fits onto the ferrule, you maybe have to put a drop of glue there to make sure you don't suck any air through (with the avid bleed you have to suck all the air bubbles out as well as push new fluid through and if you pull too hard on the syringe you can suck air in, a drop of superglue/epoxy works fine)brussel2009-07-29 10:48:53

Big-H very small ones - hmm try bearing man? as for 2mm nylock - wow never seen them that small. there are a couple of places in CT that do fastners like Topfast and some others whose names escape me right now

Nice. I have one suggestion though. You get these small white clamps that they use to cut off IV medication. Put that on the hose and it'll be much easier to operate. Will take a photo of one and post for you.

Why dont you make an avid compatible bleed kit and flog them here on the hub? I will buy one - Nearly paid 400 bucks for one the other day but I don't need it right now but I wanted it for when I do need it.

Thanx I will contact them.

Eflite offers you a hardware pack containing all the screws nut and bolts you have on the chopper. When you break the rotor head retaining bolt it acts like a shear pin to minimise damage to the rotor head. The spinning motion (centrifgal motion) throws the Nylocs away. I do have a supply of cap screws and nuts but not Nyloc. I normally coat these with Loctite Blue and let them dry. You can also use silicone fuel hose cut to the correct thickness as O-rings. I will order some stainless cap screws from RC Screwz or Dubro in the States if I cannot find them. They have small Nyloc and others. I will also order a set of bearings and thrust bearings I use on the Heli. The O rings are still a problem though but I will search when I am in RSA at the end of August.

Dirtbreath I looked for those but they did not have them at the time. The only concern is whether they would work with the relative tough tube I was using. You need to get a good fit onto the ferrules so you need pretty thick wall - IV tube might be too thin

Brussel, that's a lekker DIY kit.

I'll take two, no need to get me pipes and stuff. I'll rip those out of a fishtank somewhere.

Hendrik, I use O-rings like that in some rear shocks. I get them from Bearing Man. If you send me the ring thickness and ID I'll get you some. They're dirt cheap.
