This is a great thread and I have learnt a lot over the few months. Thanks all.

I have few more questions:

Is anyone able to identify this TT frame I came about? It has a sloping top tube with smaller 26in front wheel.

In the http://www.thehubsa....frame-builders/ forum mention is made of Bill Lange (De 'Lange) and Robbie MacIntosh. Is my frame from this era and what was the tie up between the two?

I have been thinking what to do with the frame but needed to be sure of its origin before destroying any historic value.

Awesome bike there.

Thats a Robbie McIntosh bike. And a TT bike at that.

Hang on to that baby, so few old school TT bikes around.

Anyone know during what time frame Francois du Toit was building frames under the 'Du Toit' name? I have a Du Toit, but it doesn't have any of its original components, so I cant work out how old it is... there is a name on the top tube, who I believe was the original owner for whom it was custom built, have tracked him down via facebook and dropped him a note, but I don't necessarily hold out hope of hearing back.

I think he's still building if you ask nicely

Thank you for the information Heyyou and for the compliments Quintonb.

The lug work is very neat and a pity the paint work is not better. One day I will clean it up and see whether to respray or do matching touch up.

I have the front wheel which has a Shimano 600 hub laced to a nice Ambrosia Aero Dynamic Durex rim. Complete with Tufa tubbie still in VGC.

It would be nice to finish off in this era which I believe could be mid to late 80's.

Probably need to source Shimano 600 crank, headset and look for similar back wheel. Have 600 detailers and brake set.

I found this DHC in a second hand furniture shop.

It had a complete Zeus 2000 groupset on, (Almost Identical to Campag of mid 70's)

, with large flange hubs. The groupset is now on my youngest daughters bike.

The bike is now used oin the wind trainer

!!!

If you perhaps live in Cape Town and still have this bike would love to borrow it for an exhibition.

I'm going to be the fly in the ointment ... you have to watch things like a hawk. I heard a tragic story of a 1950's custom-built track bike that was taken to Francois for a small repair to the rear dropout. When the owner went back a few months later - not having heard anything in the interim - Francois had thrown the frame away. It f******* breaks my heart.

Neither Francois nor Duncan nor Peter Allan braze bikes anymore

Francois now brings in Chinarellos with the "LeJeune" moniker.

Sad really.

I had a 1990 Du Toit that was a magnificent bike.

Looks like you have the '89 "Blue" 105 on there.

I have the same on my Reynolds 525 built HANSOM... Good luck in finding that specific groupset's spares...

I am under correction, but Shimano only made the "Blue" 105 groupset for 1 year.

I say look for the missing pieces and restore back to original.

I may have a set of 105 DT shifters that fit the description.

Anodized a grey-blue.

These may have indexing and friction mode, so could be a later version.

I'll take a pic for perusal.

My daughter's gran had her either du Toit or Le Jeune in for a service, the mechanics hired it out to someone who was riding a race, during which he was hit by a car and the bike written off.

In the case of my bike though, bought it from a shop that I later discovered has a shady reputation, it had sora components (date codes ZB, AB) my friend a few weeks later bought a Giant OCR (2003 - guess based on paintwork) her Giant (which comes stock standard with Sora) had a mixture of Shimano 600 components and 105 brifters on it! Initially I thought that they must have swopped the comonents to increase the selling price of one or both bikes, in hindsight I wonder if one or both wasn't stolen? Part of the reason why I mailed the original owner of my bike.

I heard that my friend had resold her bike a few months ago :( .
