Also interesting is the consideration of gait, Haile Gebrselassie is a severe overpronator, and in the photo it looks like a disproportionately high number of late stage supinators are represented among the elites; Less than 3% of runners are supposed to be supinators, but atleast 8 of the 28 shown look like they are. All the while the golden standard has always been: perfect = midfoot & neutral...

The most amusing thing about all this is that that mass hysteria wasn't generated by Vibram, but by the runners themselves, Vibrams were aqua booties and yoga shoes and the like, when some runners started wearing and marketing them, and only then did vibram come out with its first bona fide running shoe The legal team totally dropped the ball here, burden of proof was on the claimant, but they don't just have to prove that the runner is injured they have to prove that they are injured as a direct result of running in FFs, so if a large enough percentage of the runners were found to have had biomechanical imbalances or poor mechanics that on their own in any shoes at the same mileage and intensity would have caused injury they could have had the suit dismissed. Anyway, I will be keeping a keen eye out for stock clearing sales, I need a new pair of kicks for cross country.
  8. This is different than Powerbalance, which was gimmick through and through. This is more akin to fat people suing diet soda manufacturers... The type of people drawn to go all in for minimalist footwear were the types of people who had been plagued by injuries and had most likely been advised by numerous bios/physios/sports medicine professionals to do various strengthening exercises, which they did exactly 4 times and then when the injury hadn't cleared up looked for their next quick fix. With the advent of minimalism the group of runners who stood to gain the most from the buffering effect of the cushioning in their shoes, were the same group of runners who dove headlong into foot wear most seasoned uninjured runners were loathe to wear for more than 3km at a time more than once a week - and what is more is this group of runners was now running through niggles with this thought running through their heads "ignore it, you are running in minimalist shoes, you CANT get injured" I think VFFs legal team are clearly no good. This is just further evidence of the fact that the world has become a very safe place for very stupid people.

I don't think the 2 min itself really affects your time, but being that far down the field the 2 plus minutes is just a premonition of what is to come with the field slowing to a walk through all the bends and road narrowings early in the race, I dropped back and started with friends in D last year, NEVER EVER EVER again! The difference between C and D is immense and costs much more than just the initial 2-3 min.

A friend started from near the back of D her gun to start mat delay was 2:30, my sister started from somewhere in E her delay was 1:12, I started from the front of C my delay was 00:22, so it seems that unless you are in C or higher, rather drop back and start from E (but get there early)... Ultimately that means that to achieve the desired purpose, they should start A, B & C in one wave, and then D and E in another, so that D still get the perk of having taken the effort to seed. At the moment they are the biggest losers in the whole thing.

  14. I'm not saying doctors are the problem, far from it, but sometimes that they treat medicine with a rather cavalier outlook of someone who assumes that everyone knows what they know, and therefore need not be continually warned of the pitfalls.

I appreciate that, but while doctors study, and doctors study hard - moron who take medicine see medicine working, but would like medicine to work faster, moron take two - cause moron not care how long doctor study to write how many miligrams on prescription. No you are wrong he's a she Anyway on the point of Orlistat, I am not a doctor, quick google search, but then again a quick google search can tell you how BAD apples, or vitamin B or water can be for you... I just find it hugely irresponsible for a doctor to be advocating for a weight loss pill and calling it "actually quite safe"; and the fact that it operates by inhibiting the uptake of fats in the intestines, why am I the only person thinking "that's BAD!"? Nerves, fat soluble vitamins, healthy skin and hair...

Aim to be on the field ready 20min before start, parking a little crazy with the trail runs and the fun runs, depending on where you find parking there is the time to walk from car to field to consider too... so if you are driving up to campus an hour before you should be comfortable timewise.

MUCH better to send ou-Frik out to the "hardware store" where he successfully manages to buy a tin of R200 paint for R 5000, he then hires his comrades for 9 x market related wages and the project runs out of funding before 10m^2 have been painted ... Sure the tender process takes longer, but it saves you tax-bucks in the long run. It also grows local economies, which in turn is good for the City, and by proxy, your business. Projects with estimated total cost of under R 200 000 do not go out on tender.
