cyclists to pls meet - a collection will take place @Jubilee Square Sun.16th Aug. 8:30am

-----------------

this is from his wife :

On 16 July 2009 I was told that my husband(WCape cyclist Nasser Arend[from Tjommies Cycling Group] was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Burkett Lymphoma, which is medically classified as a hematological malignancy, meaning that it is a cancer which arises from the blood. It is a highly aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma which can be cured with chemotherapy, radiation, or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

In my husband?s case he will be going for chemotherapy and will need a stem cell transplant as well. Added to that he will need an injection to boost his white blood cells which boosts his immune system. Without it he will not survive. This injection is not covered by Groote Schuur Hospital and will have to be paid upfront (at R3000.00 per shot). He will need this with every treatment.

My husband is unemployed and I have been contracting half days for the past 10 years. We do not have a medical aid or hospital plan. We are generally very fit people and never expected something like this to happen.

We humbly request your assistance.

if you wish to make a pledge, pls call on 084 890 1260.

Hi Everyone

This is a personal friend of mine for the past 7 years and a very keen cyclist too. I know its not easy posting something on the hub asking people for a small donation especially if you dont know the person.

I can certainly vouch that every cent or rand received will be appreciated and used by the family. I do appeal to anyone that can assist no matter how small the amount.

I'm sure some of the hubbers that rode Vets in CT about 3-5 yrs ago will know Nasser. He rode tandem regularly with his wife in the PPA rides...... that orange and yellow Tjommies kit will be recognised  by the other mixed tandem couples here in CT.

You welcome to contact me if you require any more details.

PM me and I will send you the bank details

Regards

a Tjommie trying to help another Tjommie

Me and my wife often ride tandem in Worcester wheeler kit, even though I've never personally met any of the Tjommies riders, they are always a friendly and cheerfull lot on the tandems or any other bike.

I'm very sorry to hear about your friends misfortune, and I will definately like to help.

I'm also currently recovering from a very bad crash, and even though I'm fortunate enough to have a hospital plan, the bills are still piling up every week!

At this stage I wont be able to make much of a contribution, BUT I do have a plan for a fund raising project.

I've been trying in vain for the past two years to put together a tandem only DC (Double Century) team.

This year I was well on my way to finally realising this goal, untill my crash put an immediatte stop to those plans.

I've already had a few enquiries and two or three interested tandems.

So how about putting a tandem DC team together and we get them to raise funds for our "TJOMMIE".

Anybody interested to either join the team, or who would like to sponsor / donate to this project can contact me via PM.

Anybody with any good ideas how we can use the tandemsa website www.tandemcyclingsa.co.za feel free to contact me.

Regards and good luck to Nasser

Free bump.

Anybody keen to join me in my efforts to put together a tandem only DC team to help raise funds for our Tjommie in need?

I doubt if I'll be able to ride, but would like to try and help a fellow cyclist, especially since he is also a "Double up" rider as MDK555 likes to call a tandem..

Thanks WW for your efforts

I did my first DC in 2007 on a tandem and it was an awesome experience.

Unfortunately i cannot ride tandem this yr due to personal circumstances but would be prepared to pay 1 persons entry fee that would like to ride

I think we need to start a collection.

I know times are tough for everyone, but let's see that Hub spirit that has been around over the years.

We need a bank account number so that we can start making deposits.

CWC or WW can you donate an item that we can raise funds that way.

Admin or Mods please make this thread sticky.

I pray that GOD may bless him and that he makes a complete recovery!!

Come on Hubbers !! WE can stand together and make a difference!!

I did DC on tandem in 2006, the last time we finished in Montagu. We absolutely FLEW the 1st 50km of flat road, but we nearly DIED climbing up OpteTradouwConfused!!

I think 6 tandems working together in a paceline would be quite an nice ride for the DC.

Thanks for the offer, so we've already for one entry fee paid.

Amoryns, are you still keen to join this tandem team effort?
