How would you guys remove shimano cleats that the bolts has seized into the mounting plate on MTB shoes?

Bolts are stripped. . .

My best guess would be to take the cleats off your bike, then take an angle grinder and cut through the metal between the cleats and you shoes, but then that would just be a waste of shoes and cleats.. hmm, take the cleats off and buy new cleats and shoes?? Confused

I drilled the heads off the bolts, took off the cleats and then removed the remaining bits with a vice grip .......

Takes a little while but works!

Serious dose of Q20 and try again. Else drill out the bolts taking care to stop drilling before you destroy the base plate.

Drill them out Match. All you have to do is drill  the head off and then u can take the mountaing plate  out as normal but with threads still in. Wont dange shoe but will have to have new mounting plate.

Try Q5 Graphite penetrating oil.

More effective than Q20. Be careful, it's black and messy so don't muck up the shoes.

You also can get a screw extractor from most hardware stores.

This is like a screw with a reverse thread. Drill a hole down the centre of the bolt. Screw in the extractor (reverse direction). This provides you with a new square head which you can attach a spanner to. This will give you a lot more leverage. The harder you turn, the deeper the reverse thread binds into the bolt.

The mounting plate normally has 4 holes. So if you damage the holes you can just flip it around and use the other two.

My guess, there is a product made by Spanjaard called "penetrating spray" Spray it onto the cleats and leave for 10 min. What you also want to do is "shock" the cap screws. If you take a solid steel punch place it on the head of each screw and hit it with a hammer the shock will generally break the "rust weld". For a cheap fix pour some coke on the cap screws. I've heard the acid eats the rust which might help loosen them.
