Mad riders needed for 3200 km ride

Hey Guys,

Thinking about riding to Zim, got mates there, over the Nov/Dec period. Its just over 1600 Km one way.

Any one keen on joining me, got another mate or two keen. Ideally I'd like to cover the distance in 8 days, thats 200 Km a day. Ideally we'd need at least 5 riders for safety sake. Spend a few days in Zim at which point we'd turn around and wonder back.

We'd start from Maritzburg, would make a wicked base for the 2010 season.

This Sounds bloody amazing Thumbs%20Up

Will you ride with all your gear, or have you planned support? (seems like a stupid question, but hey... someone's gotta ask)

Whilst I think my wife would kill me for saying yes, I'm interested (very interested)

Hey PPWTF,

Thanks for your enthusiasm.

> We need at least 6 guys to go, got 4 so far including your self.

> I reckon we'll take all our own kit with us hey.

> The plan is to ride 200 Km a day that way we'll spend 8 days there and 8 days back with a rest day when we get to Zim. We'll stay in BB's on the way there and back.

> Average speed will vary I'd imagine. A good base pace will mean we'll be riding around 28ish KMPH. Roughly 6.5 hrs a day on the bike.

> If we leave early to mid november then we'll get back by early dec at the latest which allows time for guys who have kids to be there for the holidays.

PM if you are keen.

If Ash isn't keen on you going why don't we arrange a local one? I had this thought about PE, Uitenhage, Steytler, Willowmore, Baviaans, Patensie, and home via Elands and get picked up at Uncle Freddies.

Tar
How are you plans going mate? I am impressed with the average speed you guys intend doing with all that gear. If you are keen on joining us as well I want to try and do something (see my previous hijack post above) for early January...I have to watch people work during shutdown. Cry

Plans are sort of ticking along. The major hurdle is trying to find guys who have a enough doh to spend.  BB's will work out to around 3K, spares and sh!t another grand. How long is your intended trip?

if I'm honest, the speed, with kit, pretty much rules me outta the Zim ride - Gutted, but honest...

Spud, I would love to take in a multi day ride mate. Think I'd have to get some kinda road trip back up for the gear / overnite stuff.

I'm getting fitter, but not enough for 200km a day at that pace. Shame really, as that kinda ride is the stuff of dreams. Just to say you've done it, because it's there, and why not? :-)

[/quote'] The thought materialized 20 min ago and Erall my trusted Google Earther is checking but it could be about 600km. There are so many routes there that it will take some time to select a good one that won't be to challenging for us as we have a three day stage in Somerset East as well in early January.

We would definately not do more than 100/130km a day Simon, and it would be great if some of the wives who do ride could join, so have a chat to Ash this evening and I will chat to the rest of the motly crew on Friday and see what they all feel about doing it. The more the cheaper! Big%20smile

Thats actually a pretty damn cool idea. My racing (MTB Freak) starts off with Barbeton. Maybe we should put the Zim ride off till we can get it organised properly and go it your way. How many days do you reckon it'll take?

PPWTF - To be honest riding with gear'll probably set us back 2 -3 KPH.

[/quote'] I have to apologise for hijacking but thanks for coming up with the idea and perhaps we can ask you to share your experience with us and make our trip easier as well. We would be on the dirt as much as possible but I think the principles will be similar except we may sleep under the stars if we can.
