you dont want a stem to take you forward. Negates any room for rearward movement you gain from having a short stem as most DH stems are.

The rise also determines how far forward you go. The flatter the more toward the front wheel your weight inclines.

Wider bars do the same, and also provide greater steering leverage thru the gnar. But you can have steering issues especially in tight twisty corners. Not fun, especially when you start clipping stuff your normally miss by a mile.

Higher rise useful for very steep tracks. Helps you maintain a more natural feeling neutral posture down a steep incline, but your weight is rearward biased. Flatter bars will ahve you quite a bit forward and on very steep inclines, can throw your confidence off a bit as you feel more weight on your arms.

I run a 40mm flat stem with 680mm bars with 40mm rise.

Bars may be a bit on the narrow side, but I'm rather liking the setup... especially the short stem! Plan to get myself a direct mount sometime soon!

680 wow that's short! Patches what happened with your fork in the end. was wondering do you by any chance have a spare boxxer maxle that you aren't using?

haha! yeah... short and cheap! haha! CRC had a special on Hussefelt bars.

As for the fork' date=' bought jugman's old one. '07 boxxer.

...and as a matter of fact I do have a spare maxle I'm not using. I'm using the one off my old fork cos for some reason the one that was on the newer boxxer is 2mm longer and gives a bit of play on the hub.

So yeah, you're welcome to it if you need it! Just PM me and we'll make arrangements

Next CRC order... hope pro II 20mm front hub and spank spike rim (to match the rear wheel I got on the way [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley4.gif[/img])

Anyone know where I can source the 2010 Fox Launch knee pads? I need a spare pair as my pedals have ripped up my normal pair, leaving me to run my spares. I like having a spare set: one on the knees, the other in the wash. Rinse and repeat smiley2.gif

Hey Capricon, Where about are these trails on signal hill? I presume they run into CBD side. Would i be able to find them if i started at The Top parking lot and rode down, and take the first left onto the jeep track? Is there anything else i could look at that side? MAybe add a few metres on to your jump?

from the top parking lot, you can run down toward lions head along the sea point side trail and end up in lower parking lot (entrance to the ranger's station). From there, cross the road, hook a left onto the jeep track and haul ass down till you hit the tree line (just past where they have the speedtrap for Urban Assault). then on your right, follow the trail down till just after that steep decline. Right takes u into a very tiny 'berm', left hits my little jump. the rest of the track is not yet complete smiley6.gif, but it's rideable all the way down till u hit that clearing where everyone seems to dump their gardening waste. from there, if u continue on till the tar section of the jeep track, cross into that little forest area.. (i cant give directions I haven't marked out that route), cos there is a drop i made near the edge of road that borders the fence that rings off that shooting range. If you ride along that fence there is a bit of a technical single track that I like taking. some XC dude i asked to follow me down there refused. pity. it's not that bad. gonna make another bit of track further down from there as i see on one of the facing slopes there is p otential for a nice rock garden of sorts. smiley2.gif

I'm going this afternoon if you wanna hook up. we cna session the various paths. but it suck for pushing up :(
