Snidge, have you seriously never seen slime?

 

I remeber back in the days it was the only sealant I had ever heard of.

No sorry I haven't. Ive only just taken up cycling a few months ago so dont know all the tricks of the trade yet.

Nope, You can just top it up (when necessary).

 

UNless it got all hard and made a lekka rubber ball insite your tyre...then take it out...else the more the merrier!!

 

Someone, please also explain the Ghetto conversion to tubless....it cost approx R40 + some sealant!!! Thats all...

Did DIY conversion about a month ago and have done two races and not a problem at all so far.  In short...

 

Buy two 20" tubes (R30 at Bruce Reyneke).  Cut the outter wall of the tube off leaving only the inner wall with the valve left (rim strip).  Cover spoke holes in rim with rim tape, place rim strip in rim, place tyre on the inside of the rim strip but fill each tyre with half a bottle of sealant.  Wash contact between tyre and rim strip with soapy water.  Roll wheel on floor back and forth distributing the sealant and ensuring a good seal.  Use CO2 canister to inflate wheel quickly (all in one go), check for leaks in pool/bath and Bob's your uncle.
