Hey guys, Just before you cruise home, I thought Id run this by some hubbers.

I have built a hardtail for racing purposes, and have some options around the "cockpit".

My santacruise is a Large Blur LT with a 100mm -5deg stem and a 1''rizer

Do any of you know some "rules of thumb" for fitting on hardtails? Like, Use shorter stem, Or higher bars Or shoud I just try the exact same?  cause everything is so different the fork is only 85mm, whilst the Toptube feels shorter, but who knows..The frame is about an Inch bigger and  its a Scott Racing, something...

any thoughts? If youre going to come tell me try something out on the trail then dont bother, Im at the office now and dont have that optionWink

Quick 2 cents, most high end XC HT's seem to discard the riser bars and go for shorter, lighter flat bars. The stem to my knowledge is purely adjusted according to fit, the longer the stem the less the control. My DS Scott has a 100mm Stem and my Merida HT has a 100mm stem. Scott has 660mm Riser bars and the Merida shorter flat bar.

Hope it's of some value.

Yo man, got a Titut FS and an On One Scandal (both 29'er), thye both have 1" risers on, the only difference is the rider on the HT is 650mm wide and the riser on the FS is 640mm wide. Reason for this is because I

run the On One as a single speed most of the time and I like the leverage for climbing.

The drop and reach on both bikes is the same, the angles are slightly different so I've tried to normalise my position relative to the BB as much as possible on both bikes.

Not sure if that's of any use?

Cool, Thanks a lot guys, I "found" a Easton Monkeylite SL CNT bar with 1'' rise which Im thinking of using especially since I got it for such a steal.. Problem is I have a 90'' stem and a 110 stem but a 100 only in oversize and this happens to be normal  size whatever that is (25mm??)

I currently have the 90mm on there and its flipped over so that its about level to the floor..  man I am going to have to take it for a quick spinn this aavie.

Where have you been Titus?

Hey Shot for the advice gents, I did a little race in Kleinmond yesterday which would be y maiden voyage on the Ht..

I could start a whole thread about this.. It was a little "mickeymouse" race of 30km that was part of the "palmiet Gravity festival".

I ended up riding the 90mm flipped over stem with the 1'' rise bar I mentioned above. The bike and my position felt fine, I think the 10omm stem will be perfect, but what a experiance riding a Ht again! after the long climb at the start on which I must say I kakked just as much as on my FS there was a 4km jeaptrack downhill which was rutted and scary, I dropped 3 guys on their FS bikes that I couldnt catch on the Uphill, I was so chuffed. I must say decending with wreackless abandon  the way I do on my blur was out of the question and I went down with what Id call "fighterjet presision" but really fun.

I cant tell you how I would have coped on a longer race as your lower back and core in general takes a beating, also getting up and sitting down all the time tired me. but caroo to coast or Knysna  I wil defiantely do on the Ht. The response to power is way cool-very "snappy" technical climbs really are difficult and energy sapping.

but I fealt like a real "racer" for once where my Blur makes me feel like a fast trailriderBig%20smile

hope you enjoyed the Trans Titus

hey it's part of a kayakers festival, putting anything longer than 30kms after drinking with those guys would see a trip to the UNHCR. when i did it, it was 'ok, the route is top of the hill, left, right and then left, first one home wins...GO!'

but ja, that's one rocky downhill if i can remember.
