hassles with tubeless

so after prepping my bike for Sundays ride, i peacefully go to bed with the knoweldge that everything is set for a great ride the next morning.

Sunday morning i wake up only to find my front wheel totatly flat? now totally confused i try to pump the tyre again, well i tried and tried and tried, NO JOY !!! 4 bombs, one foot pump, one mini pump and a quick trip to the nearest garage still no joy. so i decide bugger this i  will but a tube in and take the wheel in today to my LBS. so like a bat out of hell im off to the only shop open on a sunday that sells tubes - Sportsmans warehouse

so Fifty bucks later and a cool jacket that was on special, i get home only to find that my rim is drilled for a Presta valve!! and what did i buy?

a Friggen  schrader valve tube !!!Angry

so my sunday ride suddenly became a Road ride.

so now im seriously questioning if Tubeless is really worth it or not? what happens if this happens in a race? Or maybe im just a Dumbass that doesnt know how to inflate a Tubeless tyre?

Highly usual for something like this to happen. Is it UST or conversion? I have both and never had any issues. The fact that you could not inflate using the pump at a garage is really scary. This could only be because of VERY bad rim or VERY bad wheel.

On yesterday's race a guy with a tubeless setup noticed he had a flat. It was five minutes before the start and he is now gonna fit a tube. When we left he was still trying to get the tyre of the rim.

Yes Hog i refilled the tyre with Sealant as alot of it leaked out over night

Okay then it's really weird. Where was it leaking? Along the side of the tyre? Did you shake the wheel up properly to get the sealant everywhere?

I must admit that I'm not too crazy about tubeless conversions, but that you're describing sounds like there's something seriously wrong.

its a Joe's conversion, funny thing is that the conversion was done a couple of months ago and ive had no problems till now, but this is the first time that the tyre has been totally flat, is there a trick to inflate a tubeless tyre? can you do it with a normal floor pump or do you need the pressure of a bomb or a compressor to "kick the tyre out to seal on the rim?

yip Hog it was leaking on the rubber seal on the side of the tyre. i even tried the soap trick after taking the tyre of for the fourth time lol. spun the tyre hung the wheel did the whole "shebang" but no sigar. im gonna take the wheel into my LBS today. lets see if they can get it right! will advise what they say.

What I did last time was shake the tyre sideways, and I also dribbled some sealant along the tyre bead, which seemed to make a difference. It sounds like there's something seriously wrong though. Maybe the strip tore?

Either way, take it in, let them sort it out, and focus on riding. It's much more fun than struggling with tubeless conversions.

you must strip and reseat the tubeless strip. Unfortunately when the tyre goes flat the strip can move and then it will never seal when its in the wrong place. use soap water when inflating so the tyre doesnt shift the strip when settling

Oliver Yes Tubes, last week i sliced a brand new tyre, tube went 2/3 down then slime did it's work, quick fill for slice and pump and on my way again. When i got home i put some more slime in changed tyre and still riding with it.

Strange indeed!!

My tubeless (ghetto) was done on normal non UST tyres - they are so loose that i do not even have to use a tyre leaver - theyr sommer fall off my rims...BUT once filled (OK, I needed the petrol station compressor). they seat perfectly and do not loose any air!!

I even pulled the valve isert out yesterday to add some more sealant (just in case) and can now inflate them with a simple floor pump...

Don't give up!

okay just come back from Metro cycles, the Dumbass part has been confirmed! looks like i may have damaged the valve when i pumped the tyre. they replaced the valve, pumped the tyre added sealant all in under five minutes. free of charge nogal so the only damage done in the end is my Ego lol

If you are still having hassles with that tubeless conversion, give me a shout, I have found a cheap way to solve 99% of the tubeless problems.

I have just done my wheels again and pumped them up with a floor pump and no sealant!!

I used the standard tyres (not tubeless) and they went up straight away. They did leak because of the thin side walls.

When I switched to tubeless tyres (kenda Karma) the tyres stayed hard with no sealant for 2 rides, with zero hassles. I did not use sealant just for test purposes, but would not recommend doing this!!

This is what you did wrong:

The first time you inflate the thing, inflate all the way to 60psi.

leave it like that overnight.

next morning deflate to 35psi.

Problem is, it probably never seated properly..

Go try it again, you will get it right.
