TooManyMatts Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I need to replace the chain and cassette on my MTB. I have an XT cassette and an HG93 chain on at the moment. I was going to replace with the same but thought to ask if thats wise... Whats the best chain/cassette combination out there at a similar level to what I have now? Shot
droo Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 The SLX cassette is quite a bit cheaper for not too much extra weight, but it's really up to you.
Daxiet Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Replace like with like, if you want to save a couple cents go with HG73 chain. If you really need to save more cash, then SLX cassette. But if you can stick with a good XT package. I wouldn't be tempted to cross to the SRAM world.
AndreZA Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Dax, I ride with LX (before SLX were available) chain and cassette on my otherwise XT drivetrain. Saved alot of money and have not had a single problem or urge to change to Sram. The cheaper non-chromed chain does rust but it does nothing to the performance.
TooManyMatts Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 Ok good. Thats what I wanted to hear. I was looking on CRC because there are some massive saving to be had there and there were so many chain options especially. I have gotten 2000km out of my chain at least so I'm happy with that.
