Can anyone offer opinions regarding the setback a complete 2wk training break might have on my fitness? I have been training hard for Hill2Hill (105km). I have 4 wks left, plan to load some mileage over the next 2 Wks but will be overseas for the 3rd!!!!

Not looking to take a top 500 place but would like to enjoy the ride......You think thats possible?

you'll be fine.  resist the tempation to "catch it all up" just before the race too.  Rather take it easy in that week with some easy sessions just to get the legs spinning again.

Dont think you will lose fitness in 2 weeks if you are in decent form now. I have same problem. Sick now so will have to take maybe 10 days break and the few days later straight into 3 day race. Would also like to hear some opinions regarding this break in training

Youll lose 4-6% at max and will get it back very quickly. Dont stress.

A 2 week rest will in fact allow your muscles to rest and recover fully and you will likely have a strong ride. Just afterwards you may be more sore than if you had spent time on high cadence spinning in the second last week before the race. Also for a 105 km distance you may find yourself fading in the last 20 km's. Other factors include your nutrition during the race, if it rains re last year's event), your workout in the last 3 or 4 days leading up to the race, etc.....

Just had a two week unplanned break as a result of work.

Big stress, long hours, little sleep, long travelling and late nite dinners.

 

Did a 4 hour ride this week-end on only XC race cource track - ending off with a race between friends (last one wins the flashlight to help him finds his way back home in the dark).

 

Well..., I was slammered.

 

I do not know were you guys get your numbers but I felt like I lost at least 30% of my fitness.

 

From previous experience I estimate I can get back into shape fairly easily within 3 weeks.
