Hog's first Dirt Jump!

I finally did it! I cleared a Dirt Jump!

I've been battling to get the confidence to do Dirt Jumping for a while

now. It seems illogical to just throw yourself into the air and wish

for the best, especially when you have 2 perfectly capable wheels that

keep you safely connected to the ground.

I took the Chumba out for a spin at the bike park on Saturday, but

wasn't really feeling it there, so I decided to head down the Spruit

for a bit. The thing with the Chumba is the bike feels so stable that

you think you can do anything with it. The high front end makes it easy

to pull the front up, and the frame is very stiff which makes it super

responsive.

I took a few runs at the smallest of the jumps, finally cleared in on

the fourth or fifth run. It felt AWESOME! I must have done another 20

runs after that before I went home. Some (crappy) pics of the jump:

Well done! The feeling is so awesome. Just keep doing it until you get it dialed, then you can start going bigger. A big help to me was to just relax, relax more than ever. I've yet to clear a proper set of big doubles but I'm getting there slowly!

Doing this kind of riding will improve your trail riding in so many ways.

Hey HOG, Nice bro.. Now go bigger! haha, Its crazy how a foot of air feels like eternity when you start out, and I remember everytime when I had been out of action for a while having to build up the confidence of what looks like riding up a wall which just stops and throws you into Nothingness! Enjoy bro

It does feel great! I'm a little worried about pretzelling my wheels, since they're a fairly light weight-weenie set. Will still be a few months before I can afford a proper set.

I like taking it easy, building myself up, so I'll play around on that one for a while before I start hitting the beginner line at the bike park.

heres something to get your blood going..

Jumping "lines or "sets" or Rythems" are so rad Imagin as you land theres another bigger jump to hit and again and again, and as you hit one you have to hip to the one side, or the other to get through, some you have to go high, and some low to keep speed... It gets really great Hog, If these Jumps were closer to my house I'd still be there til dark every night..

I wanted to get video evidence, but couldn't get my phone propped up anywhere good. To fill in the gaps: You see that pile of dirt behind the sexy bike? I jumped it!

LOL

Hey Hog' date=' you got any spares lying around you are trying to sell off?

Not really, have a few stems lying around, a front wheel, a few disc brakes, an old frame... not sure I want to sell any of that stuff just yet though. Anything in particular you're looking for?
