Fox Vanilla R by 2 miles :)IMO the simpler a long travel fork the better.I never understood why you need a lockout on a 160MM fork...

I've ridden both, and it's not the lockout that wins it. It's the compression damping. It stops bob and brake dive without too much of an effect on small bump sensitivity.

But my R rocks, only a 130 though...

its not the effect on small bumps that my opinion is based on, i feel that the simpler the fork the less to go wrong.

But i guess the final decision is based on the type of riding you are doing and how much time you want to fork to be in the shop.

Another thing is without compression damping you get less stickiness.

Fox's 160mm vanilla doesn't have lock out. Rebound on R and rebound, slow speed compression and high speed compression on RC2

140mm 32 is available a R (Rebound) and RLC (Rebound, Lock-Out and Compression)

Short travel cheap, Recon yes. Otherwise something like the Argyle for aggressive riding.

140mm I agree with Droo. 140 RLC is a beaut. Being able to adjust compression makes a big difference.

Nothing beats the 160 RC2 though.

Haven't had the pleasure of riding a 160 RC2, but it would make my bike feel like a Harley. And I'm nowhere near fast enough to justify it anyways. Riding a Minute at the moment though, and it rocks...

Not sure what is meant by the best...but the rock shox tora is pretty tough , very heavy too! Cheap too, fox...expensive...wayy over priced.

Pike is a brilliant fork. Can't compare Recon and tora to a 32 Fox or Pike or something like that.

In the recons and tora's case they are coil cause it's cheaper to manufacture and easier to maintain. That's why you'll find them om cheaper bikes.

A proper coil fork is coil for the action, set-up and handling of it.

A Vanilla, Lyric Pike and the likes is a suspension platform designed around a coil. Cheap forks they stick a coil in cause you need a suspension.

Yip. Rode a Shova two weekends ago that have a Lyric up front and it didn't feel right. Front was sloppy through tight, twisty stuff and the bike lost some agility. Small difference in HA on steep stuff doesn't justify it.

Unless you're willing to sacrifice action and feel and go for a Talas.
