most stylish rider ever?

Tumbleweed

We actually don't have many mountainbikers in this country. Most of them are off-road riders. Only the few that play in the forests and real mountains with their 5"-8" rigs are mountainbikers.

mmmmm...weren't you the guy who said he won't drive anywhere to ride his bike? where does that put you? smiley2.gif

I'm not a mountainbiker, I'm a roadie that likes to ride in the dirt more. And besides, the spruit starts 2km from my house, so yes, I do not need to drive anywhere to ride my off-road bike.

SO not only do mountainbikers look down on roadies, they even have a class sytem to look down on others different to themselves.  Sounds typically district 6/district 9 to me....

Obviously the top of the top guys like Burry Stander or Ben Melt Swannepoel shave because a second or two off your time can make the difference between podium placement and 4th place. However there is no point if your time is an hour off the winning time, it's wholly pretentious and douche-ish. It's the same as the beginner mtb'er who jumps into the sport buying a 40 grand bike they have no idea how to ride (yes we can all see you), or like the average swimmer who shaves (same debate if you not on the top why bother it's just vain). The argument that it promotes a closer knit sport enthusiasm is ridiculous, how does all looking like we stepped out of the gay shower at the gym doesn't promote sport spirit just makes you look like a douche.

Now I am really really confused. Am I real mountain biker because I cycle a bit in the forests here in the cape, but to get there I have to cycle on tar AND I dont know how to measure the rig size ConfusedLOL , AND i wear lycra AND I have a peak helmet AND I wear my camelback on my road bike. How else do you carry the beers?

With that attitude we would still be stuck with steel bikes, cantilever brakes, 21speeds and full beards!!

North shore whats the point of any mass production If the sport was all about the top Pro's. Im a mountainbiker, A real one. was born in knysna and Im calles bos. because I was always riding sh*t no one else would have thought possible as a kid already..I then jumped Dirt for 3-4 years, broke my back doing it and rode in jeans, no gloves or helmets and a tan.. Now I race .. I train on the road since I dont stay on a farm or Knysna anymore. I shave my legs, cause I think It looks cool and the girls think my legs are nice if they were on a girl- minus some scarsLOL. I surf, I do triathlons and Exterra.. I run in the mountains where other people walk. I swim in the sea with a tri suit, out where the other guys Paddle with Paddleskies. If the sea is mif, I swim in the pool with a speedo, cause wearing a Parachute sux.

I Dont Podium regularly, but I dream of it.. My body is mine to use as I wish and the time I spend doing what I love rubs off on the way I dress and the way I relate to people. My friend my Job etc.

I love pretending Im a pro.. Im so gay..Wink

Boys boys....silly boys.

1. If you have to ask what style is, or who's got it = you aint got style. The stylish recognise the stylish.

2. You are born with style..the ability to look good..stylish in any condition..on the bike, next to the bike, falling off the bike.

3. Style is not bestowed only on the pro's. Actually, I seldom see the top 3 finishers at local races..with style.

4. If you are trying or thinking to be stylish = you aren't. It's not a trait you can be taught.

5...and finally...the stylish don't look down on the not-so-stylish.

oh..HR and TNT..I'm watching you guys! Fine line!

You don't put ferrari rims on a citi golf. The argument against shaving is not equal to saying stop the mass production or R&D departments, obviously not, I like most other mtb'ers love learning about awesome new technology (brain shock 2010) and am always pretty eager to test it out. But Bos you shave because you want the ladies to check your legs out, you said it yourself and proved my point ever so eloquently that it is almost entirely vanity based.

Obviously it's personal choice but if you're hoping to explain away your narcissistic desire to see your rippling muscles on display to the world through "sport improvement" you're delusional. Just admit it's aesthetic. Love the pic btw, that you doing the dirt jump? Jeans and skating shoes, i like it. But you're crazy not to wear a helmet and here's why you should.20090925_101122_8818_1496967031.jpg

Actually I started shaving because I got shin splints and I had to tape up my shins everytime I went out on a run. so I tried with hairCryCry

So I shaved and Kind of like it now.. You were saying that the pro's shave because they save one or two seconds, and they have reason to because that matters to them, Im saying I dont haveto give a reason for anything  If I like doing it, Why should there always be a reason, It happenes to just be functional because of my shins.

So what you then said (in bold above) that we do do things because of what It looks like Is the very essence of style! My point exactly.. Now I lost the point, what was the fight about?

I do wear a helmet, I also did when I broke my back. when you dirtjump, Its not considered stylish to wear one, but also one dont travel at such high speeds and most of the time you land on your feet.  one learns to fall in style to.. like Dirt girl said..Wink yhats me yes. 3 years ago.

this guy Is going to get a working though..

Hmmm don't really see how that is a response, obviously you can do what you like but I assume your shin splint is off so you're continuing to shave out of vanity, just admit it it's ok. Whether in the name of style or because your boyfriend just likes how smooth it is it's ok :) just don't pretend like the rest that it forms some uber-functional purpose. I bailed BAD at the sandton bike park dirt jump last week, I'm not strictly a dirty but i like the smash and bash, and am only typing now cause of my helmet (cracked virtually in half from landing on dirt!)

Anyway to conclude, mountain biking (trials, dh, dirt, vert, north shore) is awesome and road biking is lame. Roadie's give real cyclists a bad name.

Hey, North Shore , dude..listen..what does it matter. If you join a sport, a culture..a brotherhood...anyone is going to take the steps they need to make them feel comfortable and happy in the new customs it entails. It applies anywhere in society. look around you. It's like putting on the uniform of your new school. why is this bothering you so much? you don't like the uniform?

Yeah i hear you, each to his own and all that jazz, but I'm also allowed to judge and have my opinion and we're all entitled to feel superior and condescending especially over the roadies, I just think they're lame and tired of being tainted with the same brushstroke. Have a sweet weekend catch you guys at dirtopia.
