So this is the situation. I bought a new Blackburn X4 light online from the US and it arrived today. Very eager to get it working (despite the summer weather) I plugged it in to charge and besides a red flicker for 0.5sec - nothing!!! The charger got warm and gave off a strange smell, but no constant red light to indicate charging.

So, can anyone advise what to do. Is it:

  1. Normal for there to be no red light while charging?
  2. The charger that's faulty?
If it is the charger, can I get a generic one to replace it or do I need to try and find another Blackburn one?

Please help....

Thanks

Oh crap!!! NO!! Just checked the charger and it's 120V!!!!!!! Now what? Have I buggerred the charger up?

Yep you did!!! Try and get one that has the same output on 220V.

Typical - never use technology in a rush @ night!!!

Can I use a generic charger with the same output? Or must I get a Blackburn one?

Thanks OneTime for the help!!!

What kind of charger is it? If it's a simple transformer charger then you may be able to substitite. If it's a "smart" charger that gives constant voltage/current then you may have a problem. But even so you can get these.

Think it's the 'smart' charger. Any idea where I can find one? What sort of shop? Does it have to be the 'smart' charger?

If you cannot find a replacement give the old one to an electronics guru. Power supplies are not that hard to decode. The flashing lights in the light that indicate charging/full, suggest that it's a dumb charger - the brain may be in the light?
