By the way boy where's this specialized of yours that has formed the basis of your opinonsĀ  on this brand, or is it that your opinoins have been based on watching dstv

As for this constructors rubbish... who cares??

Ā

Ā

Ā

Absalon won World cup and Nino won world champs... Neither on a spez.. in fact im sure that spez didnt win anything except for Burrys 2 wins overseas plus his world cup U23 which doesnt count for much anyway and his national wins(big whoop)

Ā

Ā

Ā

Roel won marathon worlds on a lefty...

Ā

Ā

Ā

So either way they all win something or the other... And as for four cross, graves won almost every time not on a spez either.

Its the rider, not the bike... so if you have the best carbon spez, good for you but i can guarantee that some random on a raleigh can still beat you if he is the better rider.

Hey, if you want a top of the range dual sus frame get yourself a Scott Spark.

Also, the shop won't have to tell you you're special to ride one!!!LOL

Remember, "special" people need to go to "special" institutions

Why are you going with the DT swiss fork anf not for the specialised?

I felt one of these fork during the epic and I was not impressed, light yes, but it didnt feel smooth a all. Rather go for rockshox SID in my opinion.

HI yes i've considered both the spark and the new 96 merida. THe merida carbon frame locally is 28000 and a company in the Uk can sell me a 2009 spark RC or 10 frame for 20 000 plus 30 pound postage plus the 10 plus 14% to bring it in. To answer your question honestly I only started riding again about three years ago after about 12 off and had no idea what was what. I went to MAVERICK,SHAUNS POWER cycles,JOWETTS PMB and CYCLE LAB here in DBN and really liked the SPEZ. NO one told me HOW (spez) it was I just liked it.I new nothing about sponcered riders or anything.ITS like you like MERK I like BM.IT was just the LOOK. REally only this year did I start following sponcered riders when I went to the world cup here and saw BURRY.( HOPEFULLY THEY FIND A PILL FOR ME ONE DAY)Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā smiley1.gif

HI yes price was a factor as you know SPEZ is on the pricy side.MY spez now has rock shox sid race and it is really good.I first looked at prices on the net and then at the other 2 brands namely SCOTT and MERIDA and both of their top line models spark and 96 were running DT SWISS. THEN I saw a special on the net for just over 6g for the fork and have bought it already.OVER the past while i have been buying all the running gear.I looked at both weight and appearance.(how my bike would look finished including color.I will have red accents on the bike with EASTON,KCNC,fork etc. I could possibly have bought lighter parts etc but look is also important to me. LASTLY you and VELOCE must check out JENSON USA they have just got SRAM XX in and the carbon crank set is only about 3500 which i think is very reasonable but the other stuff is a bit pricy.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā smiley1.gif

YOu bet. Ithink the price will stay high for a while even when it reaches CRC. YOU see a lot of the top bike brands premium bikes (MTb) are now XX.THE only real dissapointment is the fork.IT is now heavier than last year as they have removed the carbon on the world cup model thats why I think guys like SCOTT and MERIDA have stayed or gone to DT SWISS xrc as the fork is at least 120 to 150g lighter.THe only cool thing is the use of the hydrualic lock out now. WHAT do you think.Ā Ā Ā Ā

Personally I dont like carbon on a fork. .Ā  lower are not to bad not on steerers or crowns.

My fisrt thing to look on a fork is not the eight but the performance.

During 2008 epic a lot of the dt forks packed up due to fine dust clogged the seals. They are very high maintenance. I think the fork has something like 5cc of oil in easch leg.

I would rather go that 150grams heavier to a fork that is going to perform betteren make my ride more enjoyable. the more oil the better the lubrication, a liitle less maintance and I thing more durable for the life of the fork.

WHO KNOWS. A bike set up and how you feel on different models is slightly more dificult. The more involved the machinery the more set up time is needed.Look at MOTO GP or F1. BUT if each were given enough time the result might be the same.A person gets so used to a particular bike or peace of equipment that it takes time to get to know the inns and outs of one. Technically all the bikes are different same goes for say F1. I truly believe that MR schumaker was a great driver but if he was in an inferior car to the Ferrari I think he might not have won as many races.SO yes the rider is really KEY to success but he honestly needs to ride a bike that is better or at least can match the other brands or he will be at a disadvantage.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā

What you say is valid.I have not got to the stage of the EPIC yet and really only do the weekend races so reliability should not be a factor.I suppose its ones opinion as a few here that are good riders really like the DT SWISS.Honestly I think the brand is very good.In the end i also think that if the reliability was suspect the top manufacterers would not use the fork on their best models.I think both SCOTT and MERIDA would have gone for Xx as they already use the rest of the groupset.1st and 3rd I think in worlds for the swiss. So they cant be that bad.I do know if you race a lot that the oil does need changing. In the end thank goodness we all have different tastes or all you would see is scalpels or morewoods with rock shox. THATS what makes it so interesting as people veiw things from different perpectives and what is the best will always draw debate.cheers
