I'm looking at getting a few things from CRC at the end of the month. Then I should receive it before cycle challenge if all goes well?

Here's another example of  how useless our postal services are:

I bought a new suspension fork on eBay early September, it was to be shipped from Taiwan. I got a tracking number for it, but being an international tracking number it was useless to me seeing as the seller never told me what service/company he is sending it with. He actually said "South African Postal". I just let that slide because I rated its impossible for him to post something from Taiwan using SA Postal.

Anyways, almost 4 weeks after the parcel was dispatched I started to do some research. I googled all Taiwanese postal/shipping/courier companies that offered online tracking, and eventually found my parcel. I got the flight number, date of departure, ALLES.

So I phone up the postal guys at JHB Int to see if they've seen my parcel as it has left Taiwan almost 3 weeks earlier. Sipho/Filemon answers. So I give him my tracking number and he takes his sweet time punching it into his PC after having to repeat it to him 3 times. His response was just, well, lacking. "....................          ............................ eish. No you see my PC, she's hanging. Our interpretation is then that the parcel is not in the country yet, becuz the computa is hanging". So I remind him that the airplane left Taiwan 3 weeks ago, and if he thinks the airplane has being doing laps around JHB Int for the last 3 weeks, not landing. Response was the same. He continues to tell me that I should CONTACT AIR TAIWAN, and ask them if the airplane really left Taiwan and if my parcel was on the plane! Yes ok, let me get Air Taiwan on the phone quick. Idiot. I put the phone down.

TWO DAYS LATER, I get a slip in the mail, there is a parcel as my local post office. Yep, my fork. Jeez, that must have been great planning with someone parachuting my parcel straight into my local PO, bypassing customs completely.

SA Customs are USELESS.

Here's another example of  how useless our postal services are...

SA Customs are USELESS.

SA PO has a wierd way of dealing with the change in tracking numbers but if you ask them nicely, at your PO, they will get the new one for you... don't bother trying to phone their 0860 enquiries number though.

Not that I've got my CRC order yet, mind!  Because the original thread here is CORRECT -- customs is staffed (stuffed?) by "some" morons.  I've just laid eyes on my parcel but can't TOUCH it because CUSTOMS sent the WRONG MANIFESTO... so another poor sod out there has the same problem as me... or - mmmm - has paid less duty than they should have?!

The staff at local PO have been fantastic and have been trying to sort the problem out before I even found out about it, but the right papers have yet to be found...  The ones that came with my parcel had no details on them whatsoever, other than a pund value that doesn't look right... ???

CRC order was dispatched last Friday, arrived JHB Sat am, parked at customs (te dum te dum te dum) and then arrived at my local PO on Wed (te dum te dum te dum)...

so now I wait.

more.

how about Mfani Gamalam puts his name on the paper work so when he does a krapp job we know who it was??? because Mrs Ntinti, Mr Mtetwa and Mr Marais have done a fantastic job but get the irate customer blowing up in their faces!!!

are you sending the other one back? It will just be good curtosy (sp?). Or offer to pay for it and sell it on here. The reason why I'm saying this that there are a lot of chancer out there and if things start getting out of hand' date=' they can stop servicing us like Amazon and two other shops I use to buy from over there.[/quote']

This is a real problem. I recently ordered parts for my 1960's Ford Anglia and they were reluctant as they said too many parts went missing in the post to SA.

I sugguested they use Parcel Force as do CRC . The Pacel Force parcels are tracked like couriered stuff for most of the way .

the stuff arrived 10 days later and my Anglia now has new windscreen rubbers, Badges and even new keys cut from the numbers stamped on the lock barrels.

I ordered some screws ets to be used on the RC heli from RTL Fasteners in USA. First package was sent with correct address but country as Zambia. I contacted them and they corrected it. When we returned from Angola yesterday I found TWO packages waiting!!!!! They were both delivered early in August. What do I do now. I really do not need all those minuature model bolts nuts washers and nylock nuts. I will most likely have to send it back at my cost.

Also remember there are at least two types of 'customs' - parcels coming via post, get processed by different and less formal customs process than freight say DHL or UPS, whereby they have to submit formal customs declarations with tariff headings and all supporting docs, and you need a customs importer number for that. At the post office, they less particular about those details but the down side is no real tracking.?

Looking at the shipping options from CRC, I think Parcel Force is regular air parcel post., UPS Saver is courier and will come via frieght service with tracking numbers, which is a better option for higher value orders, chances of it getting 'lost' are minimal but might be more hassle with formal customs clearance procedures.

Either way you will have to pay 14% VAT on the Invoice amount.

I have ordered about 6 times so far this year all using parcel force for free and evry parcel arrived within 8 to 10 days.+ they insure it.I have had one lost parcel through PRO bike kit but they use standard mail and not registered.ENJOY you order smiley1.gif

Does the Parcel Force service get delivered or you have to pick it up at the local post office? I have used UPS before they are spot on, mainly from the US though.

Would this be a fair comment:

If I can get my prices within a range 7% to 14% of CRC ex Cape Town Vat included it is basically the same price as ordering from CRC - without the hassle of not knowing if customs will be "losing" the goods for weeks?

Their seems to be a fair chance that VAT need to be paid on goods coming from CRC

local shops are quoting me R2700 - R2900 for an XT crankset.. CRC = R 1450 + 220 postage + vat = about R1900... R1000 bucks cheaper?? what price can you do Icycling??
