Mountain biker through and through, but...

I competed in the bsg energade triathlon this weekend at roodeplaad dam, and being a mtb'er did the 20km tar stretch on my trusty heavy mountain bike!

I managed to join a group of riders and was amazed at the excitement generated when riding with a bunch. Chasing at the front, taking the strain until your legs burn like crazy. Then, just as you think you can't go any more, the group gradually passes you, allowing you to take a bit of a rest at the back. Then, slowly but surely, with legs revitalised, you move back to the front, taking on your fair share of work. Swishing past cyclists in the comfortable knowledge that if you stay with the group, the stretch of tar will be devoured in no time!

Now, I was using my mtb, but I can only imagine how much fun it must be with a proper road bike and a longer race.

I still think mtb'ing is a lot more fun, however, for that 20km stretch of tar I fleetingly felt like a pro cycling in the tour, chasing the leaders!

Maybe time to buy a road bike as well...

Ha ha. Been there - diet for my MTB, slicks, taller gears .......

Then I pulled my old racer from storage and the road got a whole lot easier.

Use the right tool for the task at hand LOL

now you know why we like the road! Speed, thrill and bunch - some of the stuff you just don't get on dirt.

MTB has its place for me though

Doing both really is the best of both worlds

Now tell us Justin... How were the legs when you started running?Wink

Also All triathelons are not draft legal, BSG is though.. Funny, I got a roadbike right after the BSG in bigbay last year.. I came out the water in the lead bunch and then got on my 5'' FS for the cycle and KAKKED to try stay with the okes.. then we turned around and came back up the south easter.. I blew badly and rode home with a cute blond which I got to come have lunch with me afterwardsBig%20smile

anyway.. sorry.. Yes, get a roadbike.

those triathlons are FUN... just a bit short and hard. Cause its short, you go balls to the wall and die. And why is it so successfulll, been R120 entry since 1999. For longer distances do the Jburg city tri series.

Right hey.. Dont ever say a sprint triathelon is easy because its short.. Well for that matter the Xterra Full Was so hard I was over it afterwards. They just send you up and down the closest mountain, and then for the run.. Up and down.. up and down.. Its a suffer fest if ever I took part in one..Dead

There is a offroad sprint at Elgin the week before the BSG in Cape town..going to be lots of fun.
