Leet22, I support your argument 1000%

I also want to know why people have so much to say to towards obeying the law and reporting people who don't but they do not do the reporting all the time then....?

Like when they see kids standing on a car front seat, and nobody "reports" that driver anywhere...

LEET22 - Just pointing out it is not only unsafe in RSA to ride without a helmet as you have pointed out already' date=' (probably more because of the danger of other road users causing an accident in RSA as apposed to you causing yourself injury) but it is also now law that you must ride with a helmet - this law was passed about 3 to 4 years ago![/quote']

I think what leet22 means is that wearing a helmet is not because you are forced to do it but because you feel safer...hence I always wear gloves and and Dop...it is the 2 parts of my body I use to earn money...

I agree fully that the law is the law and it should be up held. But we all break the rules sometimes speeding etc and we should make sure that we dont endanger anyone elses life in anyway.

Do everything we can to not break the law anymore

All your justification doesn't turn breaking the law into an acceptable act.

Why do you have to report anything anywhere? I mean by all means, go ahead, it canm probably only do good, but why don't you just concentrate on keeping you and yours in line and on the right side of the law? Be a decent man, set a decent example, go on, give it a try.

TNT1, why "report" cyclist on this forum...but never report bad drivers?

By the way I ride the way I feel safe...and I reported Taxi's and busses driving "unsafe" I just do not go of the handle about a cyclist and I do not ALLWAYS assume that the cyclist is in the wrong...

I am as much on the "right side of the law" as you....but we will never know will we?

You might stop at a Red light and I skip it...you might not pay your TV license and I do....etc

Nobody is perfect...

bud, why do you have to report people? why do you need the threat of sanction to do what is right? Why does it matter how many laws i or anyone else break? Why does that influence your ability to keep the law? Why don't you stop trying to justify doing wrong and quit pointing fingers at anyone else, and just keep your own arse clean?

TNT1 look at the quote that I agree with in the 1st place

So stop being so touchy about other cyclists doing ?wrong? in your eyes' date=' because as much as you think it might be, the so-called offense is not a personal attack on your identity as a person.

This is my point...I do not understand why people are so touchy about cyclist, and saying that they "cyclist" are breaking the law...but they seem to not care about all the other road users breaking the law...Is it about PEOPLE "breaking the law" or CYCLIST breaking the LAW?

BIGH, I have decided to not comment or respond to you...you are well....whatever!

Stop ranting and raving about other people and wear your own helmet, and keep your own gell sachets in your own pocket and ride on your own left side.

Any group or discipline of sport or activity will always attract attention from those who do not partake in it.

Anybody who complains about cyclists, more than likely dont ride a bike themselves, all we need to do is to clean our own backyard.Lamp

I really think the law of the country is the law. You may not like it' date=' but if you live there, then you should live within the confines of that law. Justifying reason's for breaking it is not a solution. If you find the laws untenable, move to a country where the law suits you, or lobby your parliamentarian to change the laws, but if you are a citizen of this country, surely it is your right, your duty and responsibility to uphold the law? Surely it is not your duty to justify breaking the law by pointing out others that break laws? What good does it do pointing fingers even at the law officers who in your eyes are inept? Can you imaging the outcry on this very forum if a cyclists was stopped and fined for contraveneing the road traffic act? You lot would all be baying for the traffic cops' blood. The only thing wrong with this country is the attitude of men who ought to know better and do nothing.  [/quote']

Never said it is acceptable act

but but a act that 99.9% of us do everyday

. popping to the shop no seat belt etc etc Just saying sometimes I break the law as there is no way Im going to sit at a traffic light at 5am in the morning on a dead road and wait for a car to come so it can change.

I think TNT1 put the point across very eloquently.

There are no "half rules" - you can't run red lights when it suits you because you think 5am in the morning is an exempt period. The drunk driving too fast is going to hit you with a green light on his side, and you'll be the guilty (and dead) party. BTW, the 2nd light on my route is a known bike-jack hot spot. I find it's simple to time it so that I don't have to stop for red there, because that's a place where you really want to keep your momentum. I don't mean to sound sanctimonious about it, but red lights are not such a hassle.

One thing that concerns me are the lessons the young riders are learning from us. Be honest, if that was your kid in the bunch riding two abreast on a narrow, shoulderless road - would you feel comfortable?

And here's another reason why I get livid when I see "bad behaviour" by cyclists. A couple of months ago I was chopped off at the Broadacres lights by a taxi. I cruised up next to him and said that I wasn't happy with what he'd just done (or words to that effect). His reply - "Eish, you bicycle people always making trouble on the road!"
