I think so...but why not check the link it has to display all the nasty fine print...but I think so! It covers you for all accidents not just cycling! It is brilliant.

I did a few searches through the fine print but couldn't spot any obvious exclusions or inclusions. I'm joining anyway, it would just be an added bonus to know I'm covered for diving as well.

if all else fails there is a call centre number: 0861 723324 they'll know! look if it covers me on the bike I am happy.... Sweatsafe really makes sense. I won't want to ride with someone who does not have it because they are ultimately my responsibility... If they crash, who do you call????

Reading through the exclusions I came across this.

The Insurerer shall not be liable

to pay compensation for any claim directly or indirectly

consequent upon:

....

5. the bodily injury being caused by or contributed

to or arising from nuclear weapons, material,

ionising radiations or contamination by radioactivity

from any nuclear fuel or from any nuclear waste

from combustion of nuclear fuel sustained during

the course of such Insured person?s employment.

For the purpose of this exclusion only, combustion

shall include any self-sustaining process of nuclear

fission.

I've been using this for the past year and fortunately have never had the need to call them out. Be it out running, mtbing, paddling or AR's I never leave home without it.

On Sunday evening I took myself off to Milpark Hospital wanting to have my ribs x-rayed after an accident in the Klip river. The admissions lady told me, no problem, just pay us upfront and claim it back. They wanted R 1 200 before the price of the x-rays.

Under normal circumstances (broken arm, etc) it wouldn't be a problem, but to pay approx R 1 500 to tell me, yes they are cracked / broken without being able to do anything about it except give you some pain killers and not knowing whether they (SweatSafe) would refund me, I found a little steep.

What happens to the person who doesn't have that money lying around & who doesn't have medical aid ? Could prove problematic.

I guess my question then is, if you are covered for R 50 000/ R 100 000 worth of medical / hospital treatment, why does one have to cough the money up upfront and then get reimbursed ? What happens in the event you are knocked unconscious and are still in that state on admission to hospital ?

Good point - however, exactly that... How can you be identified if you do not have Sweatsafe and you are knocked unconsious.

I would want them to know who I am so they can contact my next of kin, also they can verify if you have m/aid or insurance...There is never a fool proof system, but this is the closest thing to date!

my view is, if yo are in any doubt re your medical aid then go for it. i am lucky - i am on  truly amazing medical aid... i have all my details on the paper in my cyclesure buddy-band which is always on my ankle when doing any sport whatsoever. my medical aid has a contract with netcare so ambulance and emergency treatment is covered whether or not i am conscious or not (yep, this has been tested thoroughly). no one should be out there without some form of accident cover. the only time you want to end up in a public hospital is in severe trauma when jo'burg gen is a leader in the field (but as soon as you are stable and on the road to recovery you want to move elsewhere)

Err... lets think little pieces of paper...mtn biking = mud, dirt - water...mmm I don't think it will last in that enviroment... mmm riding in the rain...water, don't think it is going to last either...thhen there is the ever present possibilty of having an open wound with lots of blood...quite frankly relying on a piece of paper is a gamble...I am not a gambing type of guy...so Sweatsafe is for me with my M/aid...It is al about ID!!!!

revolution... the little piece of paper happens to be waterproof paper (cut off from an orienteering map, or was it an AR one.... can't recall) and it's written in ballpoint... it's survived a couple of ARs, lots of cycling and a fair amount of running. also a couple of hikes and some horse riding. hmmm, and let's not forget swimming in emmarentia dam when i was learning to paddle. and it's gone through the washing machine a few times. i'm not a gambling type either. i'm just pointing out that if (and that is a big if) your medical aid is good enough you don't need sweatsafe and there are ways of having htat info handy, but if your med aid is average or useless then you should go the sweatsafe route.

p.s. i had to wash the paper down after my 'shova crash cos it was covered in blood.

revolution, as previously pointed out, i don't need sweatsafe as my medical aid does cover everything. if it is a motor accident and there will be an mva claim they sort it all out after paying up-front for all treatment. my little piece of paper is as legible today as it was when i first started using it about 5 years ago despite what i've put it through. sweatsafe will result in overinsurance and then having to try sort out the legal issues around appoirtionment etc.

There are three (3) sweatsafe options:

sweatsafe100 - hospital cover + id and admin

sweatsafe50 - hospital cover + id and admin

sweatsafeID - id and admin ( This one I suggest you get ) However, if you are happy with your "piece of paper" then by all means stay with your paper.

All I can say is that "I" will be far more confident using sweatsafe in conjunction with my M/aid than relying on folded pieces of paper.

Each to his/her own.

have a nice day.
