goodness, how is that for a finish... some finish line thoughts from the riders

rider one(Petacchi) "I'll win this"

rider two - "Crap , Ale Jet take this again"

rider three - "Ag sh*t, I'll just slide over the finish line on my ass"LOL

rider four - "Way to finish, but that might hurt , so I'll try and stay upright"

rider five - "Hey that looks like fun... let me try it"LOLLOL

It was really funny. Looked like some just decided to toss the bike one side and slide through. I wonder if they gonna ban the use of painted ads in the last km like they did the cardboard fingers in the TdF.

Yeh, I was having a good laugh last night as well. Really did look like the guys were just doing it for fun. Can you imagine how slippery that road must have been? LOL

It's amazing how a rough road surface can look like ice. I think some guys have lekker roasties today...

Yup, they were sliding all over like ice skaters, except Popo that is, he bounced around like a tennis ball.Big%20smile

Hope he didnt get hurt, today is gonna be a biggie for him.!

Looking at the mountains today, its no wonder they were taking it easy yesterday.

My predictions , Saunier Duvall will take the stage, Simoni will take back time on all his rivals, David Arroyo (Casisse D Epagne) will be in pink, Di Luca will maintain his position and Petacchi will abandon.

Whatcha think.?

Looking foreward to see how Di Lucca & his team does. Today & tomorrow will show if it is game over for him, of if he has a realistic chance of hanging on to the pink. In 2005 Salvoldelli did it despite getting hammerd up that climb with the dirt road, Finestre?

Perhaps Salvoldelli can try for a win today, with the 2 long scary downhills?

I had another look at the finish. After the fist few (6) bike crossed the line the tar surface was still black. After that they started slipping and sliding all over the show. What was noticeable was the white longitudal smears on the tar surface. I suspect the rain affected the temporary painted advertisements. This created a slimy??? slippery surface, so much so that even by shifting your bike on it the rear en broke away and they fell. Would be intersting to see press releases etc on this. Some riders look that they weere hurt quite a lot.

The profile should suit Simoni.  It will be interesting to see if he can dominate on mountains that have made him look more like a sprinter than a climber in Tours past, but this is the Giro (and he has won Alpine stages before at both the Giro and the Tour).

I think Petacchi will fight to stay in the race.  There are a few more flat stages to contest.  Mcewan will probably leave his favourite race soon.

I am not sure that Arroyo has the ability to hang in there, but there are others that may do okay.  Sella is one.  Di Luca and Cunego should be close, Savoldelli will probably struggle.

Yes, sure, Simonis quote of the Day "I have a debt with the Izoard" leaves me in no doubt that he is gonna try and take the stage depending on the structure of the race, but certainly he will take back time.

I also say (again) watch out for Pellizotti - he is very underrated and without any pressure could climb quitely into pink today.

I think Arroyo is a good enough climber and because he is so far up in GC he is likely to grab pink.

Savoldelli, as you say will struggle, he will hope to latch onto a chasing bunch (ala 2005) to pull him back up to the leaders, but unlike 2005 when Lotto repaid a small favour to him, I dont think he has too many "chums" in the bunch.  Big%20smile
