firstly: which side is the scratch. If it is at the bottom, then polish the disc (if youdont know how, take it to a video store as they have disc restoring kits) and try again.

if however, it's on the top side, where the sticker/artwork normally is, and the scratch goes all the way thru to the plastic, then that sector's data is down the toilet.

The sticker/artwork is meant to protect the thin aluminium layer that contains the actual data.

Will Mr Min work? (this is a serious question- stop laughing!)

It might, if the scratches are fine enough. But we talking about such fine stuff the disc should read ok. but any deeper, and it may require a rubbing compound to smooth out the scratches first.

Braso works. It does take the shine away but you can still use the disc.

On the "The sticker/artwork is meant to protect the thin aluminium layer that contains the actual data" bit. I had a bit of data on HP CD-Rs and wanted to destroy the CD. From experience I know you just scrape the lable side and it is detroyed. But with these HP ones I acrually used a Stanley knife, scraped the top to smitherenes and it still worked. I then put it flat on a table top and made deep gashes and it still worked. Even if you held it up to the light you could not see the scrapes or cuts. I actually had snap the disc in two to stop it from working. I'm only buying HP from now on.

If you want to ensure that a disc doesnt work anymore, microwave it for 10 seconds.

It causes the foil/silver backing to fizz like bad eno and the disc is screwed.

I used to work in a coffee shop that played Celine Dion all day, 10 seconds later, my problem was solved.

I havent seen these new fangled HP discs that are so robust. I wont mind a few myself. Usually only buy Verbatim.?

Have y'all seen those lifelong data discs that use 24k Gold foil instead of aluminum?
