I am thinking of replacing my  road bike.

Currently looking at building up new bike. Would like a carbon fibre with S 105 groupset.

Where do you start?

How do you know if all components will fit.

Will Groupsets fit on all Frames.

Is it really cheaper building a bike than buying one, Can one trust the people selling components on the net?

Does anybody have contacts for component suppliers?

Building up is def. not the cheapest way but its very satisfying, also useful when it comes to maintenance. There are lots of variables such as tube sizes but easy enough to find answers thanks to Google  - why I even learned how to wrap handlebar tape thanks to YouTube.

For parts and groupsets - lots going here used and almost new, but check out SRAM Force, they are really well made and work well and light. I was going to go for 105's but with a little education I went to SRAM.

There is a lot of on-line shopping going in:  CWC and CRC are popular but be warned those shopping baskets can severely dent your finanances!

if you budgeting on a 105 groupset then you definately gonna come off cheaper buying a complete off the shelf bike. ANd you will have plenty to choose from. Just shop around.

In most cases its cheaper buying a new bike with a full groupo on.However get prices on frames, groupsets and see how much of a difference there is.Building up a bike may not be cheaper but is a much more rewarding experience ,and u can customize the bike to your preferences

If you have the cash, buy a new bike or even as newish secondhand bike. I've been building up my bike for the last two years with some components from the hub and my LBS, but if I had saved up for a new one over the two years I would have had a pretty decent bike by now, but on the other hand wouldnt know anything on how to maintain my own bike.

I am building my hub bike to...rewarding AND cheap :)

I'm coming in at about R5000

Mavic Ksyrium wheels (almost new from hub)

105 sti (new from hub)

Ultegra derailleurs (new from hub)

3T bars and KCNC stem (almost new from hub)

New post, crank, cassette and chain from chain reaction

Alu frame with Carbon fork

So I am sure you can build one up pretty cheap as long as you don't rush and wait for the good items to come by
