Nancy Drew Posted December 13, 2009 Share *If we're doing this as a hub 'ride' and not a hub 'race' we should get to the top at about 9h00* Pffft' date=' if IanJ's on the front we'll be at the top at 7.05, even if we do it as a ride.[/quote'] mrmed, you joining us? Yes, but only if IanJ promises to get me to the top by 7.05 and you promise to show me your dungeon afterwards. Dude.... my mom will be there!! No dungeon showing on this particular day. Nancy Drew Posted December 13, 2009 Share So I took a ride over Brees neck yesterday with Agteros, Zoo Cookie, Andyr249 and trailrider. The surface on the shebeen side is particularly bad from all the rain the area has had. I'm not sure of the level of skill everyone on the list has, but I would advise first timers to the Nek to only go to the top and back. Anyone with little experience on a mtb could become a casualty which could ruin a fun hub ride. Os took some pics that he can post but I'm not sure they will do justice to how bad the surface actually is. The ascent isn't too bad but its the really fast descent that is a concern when you hit the rough sections. Just a word of caution Nancy Drew2009-12-13 01:27:

Guest Agteros Posted December 13, 2009 Share Some of the rough stuff on the other side (Shebeen side) http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww140/agteros/Breedts%20Nek%20Scouting/DSC02913.jpg Speed is your friend to get over / through it, but then there are corners on loose gravel where speed is not your friend..... I nearly saw my proverbial without a mirror! Looking back to where we came from: http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww140/agteros/Breedts%20Nek%20Scouting/DSC02923.jpg These were taken about 1/2 way up the straight section on the Hekpoort side looking down http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww140/agteros/Breedts%20Nek%20Scouting/DSC02910.jpg Looking up http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww140/agteros/Breedts%20Nek%20Scouting/DSC02911.jpg Looking out http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww140/agteros/Breedts%20Nek%20Scouting/DSC02908.jpg A hazy Buffelspoort dam from the top: http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww140/agteros/Breedts%20Nek%20Scouting/DSC02926.jpg
Zoo Cookie Posted December 13, 2009 Share yes, it was on one of those rough sections - going down to the shebeen -I bought myself a piece of the land - paid for in blood. my level of skill and confidence just not what it should be, yet.

Zoo Cookie Posted December 13, 2009 Share luckily no muscle damage, but the wound on the knee is deep. After Nancy's dad helped me cleaned it and after a painfull shower, later at home, I still found some grains of sand in there. Looks like it will take some time to heal. [/quote'] Sorry to tell you but you have to do the unthinkable...Take to it with a nailbrush and strong soap. Then shave all the hair off the area ( not around, ON!) then put on the betadene. That's how you klean roadrash...
Borriz Posted December 14, 2009 Share I can't make the ride this Sunday. But what about a night ride? We would love to ride Breedts starting at 5/5h30-ish to finish at around 8-9h00.

My MTB Time Trial was good! And the huge muddy puddle was fun to drive through on the way home!
