Questions to the LBS

Hi have some questions born out of frustration.

These are directed at some (sometimes a specific) LBS around the area where I stay:

  • Why do you charge R95 for Epic Ride Light Lube, while it costs R59 at a gift shop?

  • Why do I have to wait 6 months for Alligator hose Grippers, while they are readily available at a gift shop?

Where is the gift shop? I'M looking to upgrade my old Swinn hardtail to a carbon fibre hardtail! Wonder if they keep stock or will have to orderTongue

  • 2 weeks later...

Cycle Shops

1 Business

2 Make money

3 Stay in business

4 Pay all the bills and wages

5 Feed family

6 Order or supply what customers want

7 Customers sometimes change their minds regarding that certain item

8 Cycle Shop stuck with that specific part(Which they paid for)

9 Take crap from all those that think they get ripped off.

And finally

They stay open and keep on taking crap but never run to this forum to complain about a customer. They try and solve the problem to keep the customer happy. Maybe just maybe the customer can do the same.

so true, but the same goes for the giftshop. the best thing to do agteros is to shop around or ask for discount. my first bike was a merida and managed to save R2000 by shopping around. i agree with the points above, everyone needs to make a living,

True, but customers do not appreciate being ripped off blatantly... R59 vs R95 for the same item is just insane. Also, trying to stay in business requires a business to contact a customer (lost?) as and when promised.

I decided in this case to vote with my wallet, and also to exercise my right to speak my mind in the manner which I deem fit by starting this thread, knowing fully well that there are quite a few LBS owners/employees on the hub. Time for a lot of businesses to stop approaching customers as 'another idiot with its(business) money in his pocket'

Also, I've tried to give this bike shop a fair chance (a silent one, as I do not appreciate sucking up) as they've previous tried to convince me that the same make/model/colour/size combination of a 20" childrens bicycle is actually two different sizes. Moving the customer from one end of the floor to the other and showing an identical item, just set up differently does not actually change the item Angry

Nuff said, they've had their chance! From now on I'll buy my "stock" items from Sportsmans Warehouse and the gift shop. More expensive items will be imported until such time as the LBS's up their act.

I do not own a bike shop neither do I work in one.

You have the right to air your grievance yes. Not saying you not allowed. Those were merely my thoughts.

If in any way I offended you,you can PM me.

No offense taken by me, nor by you I hope. Your points are very valid, but just as a business owner is trying to stay afloat, just like that the customers are doing exactly the same.

This is merely free market forces sorting themselves out, and hopefully not two tribes going to war smiley2.gif
