I have avid elixirs on an anthem. the last few weeks I have a terrible low frequency squeel/vibration that I can feel through the whole bike. At points I cannot feel if the back wheel is starting to lockup or not.

I have cleaned the rotor' date=' lightly sanded the rotor, changed the pads around left to right, changed them front to back, de-glazed the pads on a smooth cement floor, remounted the caliper and ensured everything is torqued up as too with the rotor, lightly greased the back of the pads

it still does it...help!!!!
next option buy a new rotor CWC has alligator ones for R140[/quote']

One word VBrakes

After all these disk brake questions on the tech info page I'm serioulsy considering being the first Zula owner with v brakes LOL

don't think the frames have v-brake bosses!

Damnit!

Did I mention a being first to use a big electrik drill, some welding....

I'm looking forward to disks as much as I'm dreading it...

replaced the rotor - it is hugely improved, but not 100% so it is not the pads or the rotor....

slight looseness in the wheel bearings creating resonance?

Posted

Any play on the wheel bearings or mis-alignment of the calipers will cause distortion of the rotors which could cause vibration, me thinks?Schwynn2009-12-26 07:34:34

I have the same thing on shimano rotors and calipers - Brand new and did it from the word go. Doubt it is the wavy rotors.

well I have literally just walking in from the workshop. The new rotor has helped but not as much as I hoped. I removed the caliper, cleaned it with WD40 re-bled the brakes, lubes the bolts and washers...and I think I may have solved the issue -- will keep you posted

Hey Brussel

Doing so much at once does not tell us what caused the issue - now go undo all those things and do them one at a time....Big%20smile

The squealing comes from reasonance between the rear of the pad and the cylinder of the disk brake caliper.

Clean all the bits and pieces and lube as you have with the WD40 etc... Make sure once you finished all is clean and dry. then put a dab of copper slip on the rear of the brake pad (by dab literally touch end of finger to copperslip and apply minimal amount to pad rear). This lubricates the rear and stops the reasonance.

If the workshop dudes didn't tell you this then maybe look for another workshop....???
