Can you use a clincher rim to do this?

Or will it damage the tubby shape with the sidewalls?

I have an old Am Classic 420 Rim I can use...maybe I can fill the cavity with something to make a jig of sorts...

Just pump the tubby up to the 10 or so bars while its off the rim' date=' and leave it for an hour or so and then its stretched enough to fit...[/quote']

Leaving it in the sun for an hour also makes it softer/easier to fit...

Don't be a woes, just glue the thing and slap it on the rim. Even the most difficult tubby to fit - Conti's Gatorskin, isn't that difficult.

It's only if you're planning to ride the Alps downhill that you should follow the 7-day-to-fit-a-tubby-procedure

Heh heh... I've even run a tubby on a clincher rim in an emergency before. I'm with slowtwitch... stop being a woes... just slap some polibond and put the tubby on...

I'm gonna have to disagree here - I've seen more than one cyclist pitch face first into the tar as his/her tubby rolled off the rim.

I'm sh!t scared of the things - plus I don't fancy fixing the things (I never was any good at needlework). Me - I'm a clincher man through and through!

IF I was a tubby man I'd follow the 30 day triple glued and cross check by Jan Ullrich's personal tubby man fixing guide.

Dude...no jokes here, I won a kermesse with a Vittoria Corsa CX pumped to 10bar on my deep section rear clincher rim!

To answer your question...before glueing just place it on the rim you are going to use and just pump it really hard. That usually stretches it enough.

But I made it very clear to the rest of the field prior to the Top Star start...and no one came near me!

I'm not sure if I'm more impressed by your abiloity to win ye olde Top Star kermesse or your balls to ride a tubby on a clincher rim.

Either way - nicely done!

hehehe great one GO

I myself had some veldrome fun with tubbies without glue, same thing, the guys tend to stay away from you LOL

When I think back I was nervous! But the key to tubby's is to pump em hard!

We would glue our tubby's early saturday morning with Pliobond...and then race with them in the afternoon on the track!

Ok so then if you can race a tubby on a clincher rim you can certainly stretch one on a clincher.

I just want to be able to have one ready to go and not let it stretch over night or anything before glueing it.
