I'm seeing Jhan on Saturday. I'm not sure what the solution is, but apparently my fork can be fixed, and I'm told it's quick and simple.

Johan helped me out with a Helicoil this morning.

 

 

 

Quick and simple.

 

 

 

I haven't been for a ride yet, but it looks solid and should outlast the fork I reckon.

Now excuse my ignorance, but what is a helicoil - That sounds like something i should get in my tool box. Nothing like having the right tool for the job

You found it. Good.

 

It is a nice tool to have but unfortunately it is too expensive for the small amount of threads you'll insert in your life. Also, you need a different tool for each and every thread size. For the smaller thread sizes the tool (two or three tools actually) cost about R600 and for the larger thread sizes it is more than R1 000, IIRC.

 

Just to cover all bases, you'll need a 5,6 and 10mm tool.  Just have it done professionally and when you need it.

 

Speaking of which, I don't practice what I preach. I just bought the tool to do a 9mm (yes, you read NINE) thread insert after some poepol mechanic stripped the calliper retaining bolts in my VW car. The entire exercise was R680-00 plus my time and effort.

 

I figures that I'd better do this myself than try and find someone who happens to have such an odd size kit on hand.

 

If anyone strips the calliper bolts on their VW...call me. I do house calls and I'll do the job for....say R670-00.

 

OK, OK, R650 then.
