So I have three bikes, and they're all singlespeeds. I'm using normal crank bolts with the single rings up front, but am having to make a plan with washers and things to get them to clamp properly. It's really not ideal, and I'm wondering if I can get shorter bolts from somewhere. It has been suggested that I just file them down, but for three bikes?!

I've looked at two shops already. Is it worth trying a few more, or am I likely to be met with blank looks there as well?

seek someone who sells track goodies. took some bolts off my madison and put them on the 105 crank i'm using on the singlespeed. i remember watching a vid on youtube with a dude showing an easy way to saw the bolts down.

Truvative bolts come with a washer for this purpose. I use them on the syncro side of my MTB Tandem. Not easy to find. All are normally the shimano type with the hex (allen) head on the one side and the stupid slotted head on the other. The truvative ones are 2 different sized hex heads, and they come standard with the washer/spacer.

Cool, thanks for the advice!

I was hoping I wouldn't have to start grinding or cutting (that's 13 bolts to do!), but maybe that's the cheapest option. I'll keep looking for now.

Whats all this nonsense about searching and importing shorter bolts? Go to a hardware store, buy 4 washers for 25c each. Put them bewteen the bolt and blade, or behind the blade, and bam problem solved.
