Wow! Just when I thought I had actaully succeded in creating a topical Hub thread along comes an invitation to create an even more more topical thread.. Like . do woman actually get to comment on New Bikes and Unlimited Bike Racing?

Oooh hell yes. They withhold riding privileges. Makes you look at things in a whole new light and see their way.Embarrassed

Looking to the Hub as to why to have a kid means you prolly shouldnt have one just yet; esp for the kid's sake.

Having kids? Seems to me it boils down to what we're generally programmed to do. Even if they dont "light up my life" every day, I'd miss them if they werent there.

And what to do with all the extra time, energy and money?

I have a 9 month old son and I must be honest that I have not been on my bike since the last Argus.

I did miss the freedom of riding but being part of son?s life is way more important.

Any man can ride a bike but it takes a real man to be a role model for his children. How does one explain why daddy was not in any photos or at any functions???

Ahh so here we are only starting to brush the surface of the actually true value of the best bike argument.

Like - what would would the best bike be that you can buy?  If you did not have to actually consider stupid real life?

Or the considerations of females?

(And if they can beat you in a race its only cause they are secretly pro's just on the "Off Season")

I am not the sunshine.. Cause if I thought I was then I would be like every othery man who thinks the sun shines outta there ass!

All I am trying to do is make sense of why my neighbour went from the bike he had to a pastic clamshell kiddies pool thing in the space of one year.

So it seems it is like one. Or the other. Or a bit of both, with some compromise.

I like those odds.

It is not about the bike smiley2.gif

And more on topic. You can promise me all the Dogmas and bikey bits I could want for the rest of my life (and the fame etc etc that goes with that) to try and make me choose between sport and my son.

I will choose my son every single time, without hesitation!

Are they hard work? Yip

Are they expensive? Affirmative

Are they ungrateful? Most of the time

Are they a pleasure? YES YES!

Will I have a kid again if I have to go back and make that choice again? OOH YES!!! AND MORE

To be honest, there is nothing that compares to your children. Not any posession, not any accomplishment, nor legacy.

The choice to choose between a bicycle and a child is an absolute no-brainer, and until such time as the choice becomes a non-choice you are not ready yet to be a parent. Raising children should not be a chore, but it should be part of who you are (not what you do)

Agree, will not give up my son (17 months now) for all the bikes, cars etc in the world.

No one bike will be with you the rest of your life.

No bike will touch your heart like a child of your own.

Spending time with my son and lovely wife is the ultimate.

If you do not want children, you WILL find and excuse not to have any. Same argument for getting married.  Botton line for me is, you will only know the true meaning of love and commitment once you hold that little baby in your arms.  No-one can prepare you for it, no-one can explain it to you, and once you were there, no-one can take that feeling away from you.

But, yeah, the Hub is probably not the correct forum for this discussion. Confused

LOL

Obviously you should not be choosing between your son and something else! Shame on you LOL.

Were talking - Cycling/Bikes VS (having children) / starting a family

The its a dif story. But I guess you first have to have kids to be able to comment on that. If you had the option 5 years back (after having kids) would you have done the same etc etc.

Its a catch 22. For me with no Children its simple really. Fight it off until it creeps up on you and when you open your eyes again one day your married with kids and guess what - your still happy.

But for now - not thinking about a wive or kids - so enjoying it while it lasts. Big%20smile

I don't see why women should not be able to comment on this!!!  The transision is harder for us than for you guys as we have to carry the kid around for 9 months and then spend the next few months trying to build up our stomach muscles etc again.  We lose a lot of our fitness in that period.  For the dads, they only have to stop cycling for a week or 2 when the child is first born.  After that, and obviously within reason, you can go straight back to training.   You just gotta plan a bit more.

The first year, it was hard for me to get much riding in, but from 1 year plus, its been a lot easier.

Thing is I chose to go back to work instead of being a stay at home mom.  It means I can afford the luxuries in life like a nice carbon bike and send my kid to a decent school etc.

Ratty, who said that women should not be able to comment on this?

Your points are all valid - even from a chauvinistic point of view they cannot be argued.

Would you rather have kept on cycling instead of having the little 'un? That is where this all started.

I would love one of these for my sprog when he's old enough to handle it but at $2500.00 might be a bit steep. Anyone know an engineering works / framebuilder that could attempt making something similar?

Check out the site, the guy rides proper singletrack etc.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I've only been a parent for 8 weeks, at this stage it still sucks as there's very little feedback or reaction from the miniMe but I'm looking forward to MTBing, surfing, paddling, camping and generally driving the wife up the wall with my little dude. (Not to mention sucking a few beers!!!) Oh ya and mostly PIMPING HIS RIDE!

As for riding...still doing tons of it...you just prioritise and waste less time farting around.

Ratty do you use your trailer offroad? Any advice on what to buy and look out for in a trailer? I want one that can at least handle the fire roads in Jonkers etc.

hi all. just back from working a 12 hour overtime shift and sad that I cannot be racing on sun beacause at that time I will be finishing a 24 hour shift - so in a way, my job is my kid.  Or at least places similar time restraints on me as having a kid might.  But i am sure that a child is way more fun.  Wish my neighbour had sold those ZIPP 404 tubs to me for, like, nothing.
