Do your bit at home the the President will allow you to go cycling while she looks after the kid(s). Time it so that you look after the kid while it is sleep time! Wink That way you are not too tired to go cycling!!!

I would love one of these for my sprog when he's old enough to handle it but at $2500.00 might be a bit steep. Anyone know an engineering works / framebuilder that could attempt making something similar?

Check out the site' date=' the guy rides proper singletrack etc.

I've only been a parent for 8 weeks, at this stage it still sucks as there's very little feedback or reaction from the miniMe but I'm looking forward to MTBing, surfing, paddling, camping and generally driving the wife up the wall with my little dude. (Not to mention sucking a few beers!!!) Oh ya and mostly PIMPING HIS RIDE!

As for riding...still doing tons of it...you just prioritise and waste less time farting around.

Ratty do you use your trailer offroad? Any advice on what to buy and look out for in a trailer? I want one that can at least handle the fire roads in Jonkers etc.

[/quote']

Yes I do.  We use it around Koeberg which is jeep track.  I haven't had a chance to try the 8km loop at Jonkers, but I'm sure it will be no problem.  I was actually very surprised how easy it is to cycle with it behind you.  I'm not that fit, but yet the only time I've really stuggled was when I was going into a very strong head wind.  Oh and my kid LOVES it.  If he sees it in the garage he goes straight to it and climbs in.   What is also nice is that if the bike falls over the trailer still stays upright.

I bought it from Chain Reaction Cycles as the cheapest one I could find in SA was in JHB and selling for R5000!  I got mine for R1800.

Very happy with the quality and ease of use. Also bought the stroller kit to go with it so now I've got stroller that I can go running off road with.

Ratty' date=' who said that women should not be able to comment on this?

Your points are all valid - even from a chauvinistic point of view they cannot be argued.

Would you rather have kept on cycling instead of having the little 'un? That is where this all started.
[/quote']

There was a comment further back in the thread asking if women should be allowed to comment.

In the 9 months I was pregnant, my answer would have been that I would have prefered to carry on cycling.  The day my son was born, that all changed.

My main point though is that it is possible to have both !!!  The only hard part is that when you are exhausted after a race, you can't just come home and put your feet up.

He is completely bike crazy so don't have to worry about that.

I've started training him already to clean his and my bike :-)  And he does a wheelie on command on his little KTM bike (I'm a very proud mommy).

Sorry, I did not see that post. Good post though - proof that you can have your cake and eat it (more like share it with the little one).

mmmmm - so rather disturbing thoughts earlier on there. smiley3.gif

I am one of those old school types that was mentioned earlier on in this thread - got married at 24 - had our first kid at 26, second one 3 yrs later - and i dont regret it one bit. As for other things, if having two girls in private school, is what is required for them to get ahead in life - then thats what i will spend my money on as opposed to a carbon dura whatever. As for ridinig - well i get on my bike whenever I want, and my eldest is now starting to ride short distance rides. And added to all of that, while you are all worrying if getting married and having kids is going to affect your life, by the time I am 50, my girls will be adults and ill have half my life (well not quite) ahead of me with the joy of seeing my own family starting a family of their own   Stretch2010-02-08 01:40:49

although i'm divorced, i get to see my kids a lot, because my working hours see me getting back east before 2 in the arfie. they usually go home just after 5, when their mum picks them up, so i can fit in a quick spin before the sun goes down. funnily enough, i had less time to ride when i was married. like you, stretch, i don't regret the choices i made one bit. love the little tykes!
