-If you are overcharged VAT on a shipment by the Post Office, they must refund you. Its not SARS who did that.

-If you send back faulty goods that you intend re-importing. you have to register them with customs for re-importation otherwise you will be charged duty again.?

I bought a Camelbak. Walked in, selected it, paid for it and walked out ..... end of story. Took half an hour and only 1 trip to Finish Line Cycles.

Guess I buy locally to save all the trouble .... but certainly not to save money though!

I think we can expect more bullying from Sars in the future. The days of budget surpluses are over and certain chickens are coming home to roost. Government needs money to keep the people happy, not to mention the numerous hungry mouths in the President's extended family. An instruction will have been sent to Sars to turn the screws on the taxpayer. That's my cynical take on it anyway.

That's my take on it too. It doesn't seem like they're going to raise the tax rates at the moment, so their only other real option is to improve collection and become stricter on the regulations.

It's certainly more plausible than the 'shadowy LBS cartel made them do it' theoy.
