Sorry to hijack your thread GrantC, but it seems like there's some interest in something like this...Who'll be keen on doing something like this (I'd say about 150-200kms a day)? What's the most cost effective way of doing it (hire a vito, get a trailer and camp/guesthouse at every rest?)

 

I was at one time toying at an informal trip to Italy with road bikes. Something like 10 days camping on Como and surrounds would come to about R11k pp (including flights and all other costs except beer/wine/cigars)

EB but has Tavalo di Vino Rosso put as many studentts through Varsity as OOM TAS has?

 

I'm in for a trip to Durbs on a Raod bike. Great experience. I can vouch for that.

Winterton - PMB 170km

PMB - Durbs 105km

Nice quiet roads. Great riding from Clarens through Golden Gate.
