Been riding for ages on Maxxis larsen TT's and more recently the Crossmarks, good tyres on hardpack, gravel etc. rolls nice and fast, and they feel a little nervous to me in fast tight corners, and the front tend to washout every now and again..... So I am thinking of trying something else, something like the Schwalbe Nobby Nic's 2.25's or Schwalbe Smart Sam's 2.1's Anyone tried these before? I like that the Nobby Nic's are 2.25's but I wonder if they will be slower and more heavy than the Smart sam's but then the extra grip will be great on technical bits etc. Just dunno what to go for.....

Mate fo mine just switched to the Nobby Nic and Big Betty from Kenda's. Says he really likes them. Not sure if he reckon's they're better than the Kendas though. Not much use i know.....but that's all i got Big%20smile

I love Racing Ralphs almost as much as Minty loves his Titus. They are excellent allrounders. Haven't tried the others though.

Can't really help Daemon but it looks like I'm going to be looking for a new front tyre as well.

Not really happy with the Nevegal on the front. It washed out in a low speed bend at the XC on Sunday with the result that Flash used me as a berm. Smile. At Induna, I always felt that the tyre was on the edge of washing out when going around those corners coming down the mountain.

Yes I lurv the Racing Ralphs as well, pretty popular here in Europe.

Seem like a good all round tyre and definitely work ok in mountain goat terrain. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Apparently they did not fare to well at the Cape Epic, but not sure if anyone actually kept an accurate count of how many people used them compared to other brands and then changed during stages..

Don't know so well SwissVan. I heard that rumour as well during the race (spred by Marius btw) but then spoke to a guy riding them at the end of the 7th stage and he recond he'd buy the damn factory it he had the bucks, that's how impressed he was.

I'm guessing 50% of the Transalp field rode RR's, coz that's all you saw in the bikepark... hard to miss with their white sidewall lettering.

Most of the top racers here in the UK use Ralphs on the rear and then alternate with Nic's and Ralphs on the front depending on the course/weather.

Hey Deamon

This winter i have been trying a number of tyre set ups, and can give you some first hand feedback.

The Schwalbe Smart Sam rolls really well, and works nicely as a rear tyre, but is not that grippy on the front for aggresive riding. Also you wont find a 2.25 localy.

I found a set up from Schwalbe called something like the Trans Alp set up, quite expensive comes in a blue carry bag with 2 spare tubes, tyre levers, rim tape and a 2.25 Smart sam for the rear & 2.25 Albert for the front. (If i recall it goes for something like (R900). For all round well rolling set up that can still be ridden aggressively, this has to be one of the nicest set ups ive had. The Albert on the front is just awesome.

On one of my bikes at the moment im running the smart sam on the rear & racing ralph on the front, both 2.1, and this is a perfect set up for racing.

On my all mountain bike i am currently running the Kenda Nevegal small block 8. After having tried the Nevegals, was a little dissappointed, for general trail riding dont roll we'll and the front can be a little sketchy.

The small block set up rolls really we'll for a 2.35 tyre, and looking forward to now trying it on the front as well this weekend.

But in all ive ridden Schwalbe's for the last year with no problems.
