I now have the cash to build up my BMC SL01 (advertised in Notice Board). So what do I do?

Do I look for a used bike on the hub for the 10k its going to cost me or buy Campag Centaur, wheels (2-3k) etc new and have a new bike?

Well yeah CSA are short of cash - they will find you and impose a sentance upon you that would make a murderer cringe for - even if you are on your dikwiel in the middle of Spingbok and happen to get caught in the middle of the Springbokkie Dumduikers club ride.

Trust me they won't bother me at my speed - even if I go over the white line. So what advice for me muXmAn & did you get your wheels yet? racman2007-07-05 14:15:08

nope not got the wheels yet still saving up. Had a look at that frame of yours and I would certainly invest the cash in building it up.

I think you're right - there's something about buying new and knowing that you are the only one who has used the item.

Was thinking about Centaur with maybe Easton Circuit (or cheaper Fuclrum 5 for now) wheels, Easton EA70 Bars & Stem. What do you think?

I say build up the BMC. I just finished building up my Giant with new Chorus. Took me ages to finish off but its really rewarding knowing its something that you built up yourself. CWC are getting a new shipment in 2 weeks time, so your timing is just right.

I like the fulcrum wheels but they are also heavy - Maybe Jokermans Dura Ace set at 3K which is a bargain. Then Easton stuff I find is very expensive although good quality BUT shop around.

I got a set of Ravx Halo bars at R1700 which are great and i have seen stems in the RavX range for R750 where the Easton stuff retails at R1600 for the same weight.

I just maintain that we are not pros and ride for the fun of it so what is a 100 grams between friends but a saving of a couple of thousand for the sake of being 100 or 200 grams heavier is a no brainer.

Do I go Centaur with better wheels or Chorus with training wheels for now?

(The BMC is almost new and is a great frame in my opinion so will probably build)

For my bike i went with the Ritchey WCS stem and Bars at about R1200 for both(not carbon). I also went with an EC70 carbon post at R900. Would have liked the Ritchey WCS carbon postbut too expensive. I built up a pair of training wheels with Veloce hubs laced to Alex rims, and then bought a set of Neutrons from the Russian here at the hub for R2500.

My Giant frame is an Alu/Carbon OCR Zero that i got new for 3K. At my level its more than good enough and its still pretty light. In fact the complete bike is very light, even with the training wheels.

Not  familiar with the Campag stuff but Chorus with Jokermans Dura Ace Wheels will set you back about 11k and then you got top of the range with racing wheels aswell.

I don't know what the price of Centaur would be but would imagine it is cheaper than Chorus so the saving there would allow you to still have cash for bars, stem and pedals

I also weighed up Centaur vs Chorus. In the end I went for Chorus since for me its a long term purchase and i dont know when i'll be able to afford it again.

BTW. I dont think Dura Ace wheels are Campy compatable.

Racman. Go chorus with cheaper wheels for now. Bar and stem sounds fine. Easton rocks.
