Why is it not working properly? Simple people and their attitudes.

I as a person of colour have seen some successful systems in place and producing through their ranks quality riders, unfortunately these guys are snapped by the richer clubs with all promises and no delivery hence the system dies. Germiston wheelers in Gauteng is a good example of doing great work with the PDI guys, yet there is not recognition for it. I ask the question of youngsters such as Roy Masikari, William More and many more why has no big club taken them under their wing and groomed them.(Check their results at the timing co's)

We hear and see a lot about the LCA in Cape Town(Glyn), this is truly a revealtion of transformation in cycling yet they get shot down for thinking out of the box and getting initiatives off the ground and working for the youngsters wanting to be part of their system.

With the help of Glyn I had grown my development clinic into a budding affair up in Gauteng(Florida/Jabulani) only to be hijacked by my so called neighbouring clubs two weeks before Glyn and Pick n Pay were to give my project a huge cash injection all for what- a promise of better things to come from them. By the way none of these guys and girls had ridden a race since they left me before the "Tour de Soweto" I WONDER WHY? I had bought them timing chips, given them kit, helped fix some of their bikes entered them into races and transported them there and back, some slept over at my home the day before a race so they could get to the races with me the next day, what todate have they got from their new clubs?

Yes Glyn keep working the way you are, you will produce the goods in the long run, Kakaa is almost their.

I take pleasure and pride having a youngster such as Isaac donning his kit and bike in the peleton and racing with the big boys here in Gauteng and achieving good times amongst the best as can be seen this year in the Elite races, I believe Glyn Andrew McClean and a few others such as Germiston Wheelers need to be commended for their efforts, they are not like the window dressers in the sport dishing out Tokens only.

Two of the biggest events in the country are quick to say the are aiding the PDI's at their events by donating free entries, bikes and sponsored clothing to a few riders. That I believe is window dressing, where are they during the year when we are working with these persons, yet race day they in the sponsored colours giving recognition to the event not to the clubs and persons working with them the other 364 days in the year.

I to date have never accepted free entry for any of my riders into races thus far and I have white youngsters in my club who I enter into races as well because of their circumstances. IT IS ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE AND GETTING THE JOB DONE.

We had William Moore at our club... he left for some other club. And we had another rider of colour who also left after a ride or two.

A problem of interest... non exposure to cycling in schools.

Another problem - schools are about rugbyConfused athletics, cricket.

If this country wants to be a power in sports, they'll go and check what Australia has done... learn from the other. Establish sports schools... the kids apply, get tested etc... let them train. If they make it,,, so it be keep them there. If they don't , send them to another sports school. That way, you'll get the best where they belong. That way, once you apply, and anybody should be able to ... there won't be any discrimination/non transformation. And let the government help with payments of those schools. Oh but wait, they blew all the money on weapons, Thabos's birthday bash, R4m jewelery for Winnie etc. I wonder who are FREE?

And with sports schools, you won't get asskissers in school who get where they get because of th teachers who receive their apples and pears so gratefullyAngryAngryAngry

Good on You Mallo!!! I have ridden with you on a couple of your training rides and Isaac seems to be a class cyclist, so well done for doing the hard yards and putting your money and your time and your effort where your mouth is.

Well Done Mallo.

At the Vets Tour in June, there were so very good PDI guys racing. A problem we saw that these guys need kit. The temp was sometimes 1 or 2 degrees. 101% wife got my team to donate old kit to them. I think if we all donate old kit to these guys, it will help lots.

Where can one drop old kit off... I have an old helmet, has a chip on top( a truck came past me one day on a road being tarred and kicked up a stone, I was looking down at the time so it hit me on top of the helmet, leg warmers - too big , old shoes (6), old shirts/shorts name it.

At least LCA is doing something about getting the youngsters on the bikes. I had the privilege to spend last week with these kids at Eric van Enter and must state that I can only say good things about them. Ayanda and oom Jan Binneman are true ambassadors of the program.

Keep up the good work Glyn and your team!

You can drop it off with me at the races. I will speak to Mrs 101%, to check if she can help distrubute to the needy. I am the team manager for the Bulk Pack Meat Team. If you see us at the race, come over to say howzit and drop off the kit.

maybe i'm wrong but its a pity they work in isolation with respect to the development arms of the csa because this is a good example of transformation/uplifting the pdi's for when the Govt. points fingers at cycling for being too white. btw the Lotto bikes (road and track) works perfectly down here in the Cape but they haven't been audited for quite awhile now (it must have something to do with Lotto).

Butafly I asked Roger B several questions last year and was shot down by him hence I work on my own now,Look at the trans/dev plan of CSA and honestly tell me what will they achieve at year end based on their ideas.

I have requested two bikes from CSA Last year and still waiting to receive even after S Dale spoke personally to me over the phone and referred me to Tony H.I know the track bikes in CGC is well looked after but the road bikes is another story. Obie the guys are very appreciative of it and wear it with pride.

Pity some of these youngsters very quickly turn into I WANT BIKE, I WANT KIT I WANT I WANT and then when you cannot give more they run to the next person to supply.

There is very few success stories.

There is no clear guidelines on this issue

CSA Development leaves a lot to be desired (i think it is a myth) but what i was suggesting is that for the CSA to adopt LCA as their development programme in the Cape and then ask Govt to meet pvt sponsors rand for rand so that more funds / hardware / kit etc would be available for more kids. this could be replicated in other areas (obviously build in terms and conditions wrt CSA cocking up the programme)

The difference between transformation of cycling and development of cyclists with potential.

Transformation is changing the color of a mass participation sport as well as giving the disadvantaged community a means of transport.

Development is the identification of PDI cyclists with potential and developing them to the point where they represent South Africa for instance Nolan Hoffman.
