do heavy wheels on a mountain bike make that much difference. i also ride with a camel back and my spares in the camel back. would it be better to ride with bottles or as a relative novice does it not make a difference?

MTB is one area where I do advocate light wheels...

Disclaimer - I have done no calculations to back this fact up.

In my experience all the accelerations, braking and moving around of the front wheel that a lighter wheel set akes a tangible difference.

Camel back / bottles - I prefer bottles. I don't like the feeling of weight on my back. But I have lost a bottle of two on bumpy sections. Pros/Cons....

Same here' date=' 1.86 and this mornign 93KG. Doing only MTB.Specific to MTB I think the ideal for me will be just below 90KG. This means though that I am not refering to full on racing with the elite guys but being able to post respectable times. Also feeling comfortable in your own skin I supose. What's your guys' view on specific to MTB? [/quote']

Maybe you should cut your hair, or straighten at least! That would help! smiley2.gif

"Feeling comfortable in your own skin" What!? are you a woman now!?! smiley36.gif

LOUgende, my logic tells me that the less weight you have to drag with your bike the easier you will ride. As long as you are burning fat whilst training, and not muscle, you will become lighter without losing any power.

"ANDThats why I got a lighter bike, not a HEAVY GT! By lighter I mean Merida!

You know what you rather should've spent the money on that you spent on the Merida?

Eldron,  in reality only a few people really feel the difference of lighter wheels. For the average jane, it is surely just a wheel.

The question should be more like - do better hubs make a difference?

Or, does a well maintained bike make a difference. I mean the damn postman whips my ass up the R44 every damn time and my bike is worth like 400% more that his.

i got mavic wheels 2nd hand -light ones with 2bless and i go 2-3km/h faster on average. the science also supports the lighter wheels over handles for example. save on the round moving bits before the straight bits
