If you buy any of these make sure you get the candy SL.  (stainless)

NOT the cromoly spindle. these are the ones that gives the most problems

The sl is a little more expensive but really bulletproof....

Its the other way around according the their website - Candy is bottom of the range then Smarty.

I think I'll give it a shot! Embarrassed

Uhm - no.

Unless they make a habit of selling there more upper-range products for a lower RRP than their lower-range products...

Nontheless - at the price you paid, which was a sweet deal - enjoy!

What's the point of the smarty??? Really the little platform around the

eggbeater does IMO nothing...just add extra weight...and don't tell me

it's for extra support etc...your mtb shoe should have a stiff enough

sole so that you don't need "extra" support.

On my third pair of eggbeaters now, the bottom of the range eggbeater

breaks...I broke the cage on my first set...go a warrently replacement

on a 2nd set and those broke as well...the eggbeater SL's are on the

other hand AWESOME and I have put them through serious abuse...drops,

jumps, smashing againts rocks by accident, etc. etc. for over a year

now and they still look new.

Yip, as i stated earlier, the cromoly ones break.  The SL (stainless steel) ones are bombproof. and just a little bit more expensive.

I'm not exactly sure why the platforms either...

The pedals I have, the Candy C's, have the platform as well...

What I can say is that with egg-beaters, I can only assume it's not that simple to quickly pop down to your local corner shop, on your bike, in your Crocs/slops/trainers...

Whereas with the platforms around the pedals - you can.

And whereas I've never tried this yet - if I were to drive out to a singletrack-come-downhill track a few km's away from home, I guess I could wear my trainers and then comfortably put the foot down should things get hairy - until I get used to the course, before returning back with my cycling shoes...

But other that that?

Who knows....
