Swift01 Posted June 3, 2010 Share Ha Ha don't get me started on the MTB seeding problems. So far this year I have done 5 races all of which the SA cycling guy has been at the front saying this is a SAS race and goes on for an hour about the rules etc (interesting last year head phones were banned, the last race we were advised not to use them and get used to not using them as they are going to ban them. Out of the 5 races they have loaded 1 into the system. These races go back to March this year. And the one race they added was the one I decided to have an easy day and ride with my girlfriend. D batch here I come.......... I have been enquiring lots of times if the races will get loaded I am told they will be. I finally gave up 1.5 months ago. I have even been sent 2 documents on how the system and seeding is calculated. One part where it fails is if a person has only done one race. They take your ave from your best 3 results. I have done races where I have beaten someone, but because that person has only done 1 race they have a higher seeding. Guess all we can do is go there, ride and have fun. At least the beers should be cold at the end :-)
Muddy Posted June 3, 2010 Share Do they use spectrumsport results for seeding? IS there another kind? RoagMTN national seeding index Spectrumsport does the timing and that will be used for seeding. Seeding will be the national seeding system via SAS. This is why you need the SAS board.
Swift01 Posted June 3, 2010 Share Ah but spectrum sport for starters has their own list of problems at nearly every race I have been to. Somehow they always seem to get it wrong, even with your SAS board or one of their own boards. Roag on the otherhand with their Mr Price chips seem to be pretty spot on, and quick. Registration is quick, just scan your chip get a goodie bag. Wish I lived in Kzn :-(
mama baaisiekel Posted June 3, 2010 Share I took back what I said. We eventually got my son's index sorted out, and we are happy. Because of previous results last year he is still seeded lower than the guys he wins at the moment, but it is his job to work on that. At least his good result at Mabalingwe was taken into account. Thanks Carla!
Weight Weenie Posted June 3, 2010 Share Mama, you say his result was taken into account for Mabalingwe, does that mean that he already had a SAS board or did they just use the actual result from there ?

Wish I lived in Kzn :-([/quote'] Swift01, sorry to say this but ROAG is not much better, it only pays to ride all the ROAG races to get a good seeding!!If you do 1 or 2 races and do very well in them, they still seed you in a low batch, due to the fact you have not done enough races in KZN I did Karkloof and Greytown last year, both finished in the top 20...Went back to do Karkloof this year and was seeded in C batch, so that meant havin 120 riders in front of me!Same issues as other timing co's!! BrendonMyb Posted June 3, 2010 Share im not complaining, ive been seeded in D on the 70km which is just about exactly where i should start, perhaps C wouldve been more spot on according to past performances but i think ( if its true ) that Mabalingwe counted then that would have brought me down due to my mechanical i had, so overall im pretty happy with where i am
Swift01 Posted June 3, 2010 Share The last race I did in Kzn I got seeded in the LAST batch. But then again it helps to Pre enter :-( I passed some 360 odd people that day, and came about 52. My worst results this year so far...... But as I said I have given up, so i will race to get to the beer tent and laugh about the race with mates afterwards :-)
Weight Weenie Posted June 3, 2010 Share Cant see how mabalingwe counted or it was insignificant, I had a top 20 there in the 35km but im still in F batch for the 40km at Hazeldean
Squier Posted June 3, 2010 Share I also have a crap seeding for the Hazeldean race! Couldn't understand it until I checked my results. Damn, but I was slow last year! More than 1 hour difference in my finishing time between last year's Nissan races and this year's Lion Man! Can't argue with that, so I'll start at the back (well... almost) and hope for the best.Squier2010-06-03 05:47:
Sharkie 2 Posted June 3, 2010 Share Must I buy my own SAS board or are you refering to the Spectrumsport boards we normally receive?
Swift01 Posted June 3, 2010 Share I got Carla to send me the documents on how they seed you. The longer the race the higher the weighting. Also your 3 best race results are taken into consideration. Then as time goes by the less weighting a race that you did well in say 2009 becomes... The formula used to determine a participant?s average index per Index Type (e.g. Gauteng index type) is as follows: Weighted Average = W1(Ri1 + Wt1(Ri1)) + W2(Ri2 + Wt2(Ri2)) + W3(Ri3 + Wt3(Ri3)) + ... + Wn(Rin + Wtn(Rin)) W1 + W2 +W3 + ... + Wn W: Positional Weight Ri: Race Index
