oh please! its like most other Bicycle shop in this country' date=' your big mate while you spending money and they receiving, as soon as the wheel turns the story changes.?

?

As far as I am concerned the service given by 90% of cycle shops in this country is a joke!? some of the most arrogant people I have even met in my life are cycle shop owners and works, and I work with High end bankers and traders every day of my life, beleive me I know what arrogant people look like!

?

For the shop to turn around and just dismiss it with a "sorry its not our problem" attitude enough for me to make a decission about them.

I suppose it is like everything else in this country, while you are willing to pay everybody is happy until the day when you are unhappy...............don't expext any service!!!!

I`ve never dealt with Singletrack before - only heard good things.

However - "Dont judge a man by the mistakes that he makes but rather by the measures that he takes to rectify them" - My theory.

Singletrack - At least show some interest to help resolve this - in the name of all this cycling related

Now theres what we are all after here, admit you made a mistake, go the extra mile, and you might just increase your customer base thanks to this thread, if nothing gets done well you do the math.

Get real ' date=' the purpose of insurance is to put you in the same position as before you incurred any losses, which would be to give you a five year old bike worth about R6k - Anything better than that and you scored big time!

And think your also slightly missing the point here, you dont have insurance to cover your bike going to the bike shop, you have insurance incase you get robbed.

?

?

Exactly, I should have insurance for any eventuality, shouldn't the LBS also have sufficient insurance for any eventuality? If the bike was stolen from the washbay, it certainly sounds like an inside job to me. If a staff member is responsible for negligence then the shop owner should take responsibility because he employed that person.

@Bontie

Don't put words into my mouth. I don't expect them to cover the 10-20K difference.

In terms of being in the same position. Just take into consideration that even should I get a 10K payout I still need to spend $$ to get to a current dual suspension bike.

The cheapest bikes start at around 15K and a replacement Anthem X2 or Trance X2 would be 20K+.

I would also lose a back-up/buddy bike since I would now only have 1 new bike.

The claiming part is important since I did not loose the bike!! I don't mind paying for insurance if they are covering my mistakes.

Another reason why to learn to fix your own bike. These people don't care for your goods. Good luck mate.

Spot on ou swaerie, this is actually shocking...this is why nobody touches my bike except me.

One question VT-2. Why is your bike not insured for replacement value?

It is. I just changed the max value to 10K when I changed insurance companies. (used to be 16K). It is all risk.

All my insurance want from me is a quote on how much a new replacement bike would cost. In this case, obviously I cannot get one for an Anthem and would have to quote a hardtail or something for 10K.

My premium would, however, go up substantially on the next bike I insure.

VT-2, provide them with a quote to get the next level up or one with similar specs - that way they will see that bikes values have gone up and they should proivde you with the full amount insured for should you not be able to get that bike again.

Insurers generally try to give you back what you had - so if you had upgrades, that would not be included unless you specifically add it to your insurers by providing a bike spec document. if not available anymore, then they replace with something similar.

Hi Helgard,

Lets discuss this issue once you're back and see how we can best deal with it.

It seems we are all getting different advice from the parties involved eg your insurance, my insurance, the police etc., please let us agree on a plan forward once you're back.

I think it is very unfortunate that you decided to publicly humiliate us before we could even start sorting this out, but that is your choice. The crime situation in South Africa is not our fault, shoplifting happens on daily basis, even at other bike shops. I have called a number of local shops and they have all had cases like this before, sometimes negligence and sometimes not. You simply blaming us and making demands before we have even assessed all the alternatives is quite disturbing, and in my mind, unfair.

Looking forward to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

I agree, i can see that you are disappointed, but everybody is bad mouthing SingleTrack which is not fair, you are not here to sort this out, secondly, i think you ware looking for advice not bad comments for the shop, even though disclaimers state you leave your bike there @ own risk

this is a disappointed for the both of you so give them a chance to figure it out! STRONGS TO THE BOTH OF YOU!

Any progress on this yet?

As allot of things was said and promised.

Would love to see the outcome (happy ending) here!

They have offered to find me another VT-2 in the same condition. They have placed an add on the forum as well.

I guess it is fair. As long as the replacement bike is in the same condition and contains the same upgrades I had on my bike (tubeless tyres, lighter rims, new drive train parts etc...).

But so far I am holding thumbs and hoping for the best.

They have not communicated with me since last week...

Thats good to hear.... hope it all works out....

Don't think they are gonna find a VT2. They are are not as common anymore.

Why don't they just give you the option of the value of your bike plus then you add whatever you need to upgrade it or something similar....

Dont know Bennie to so slow in replying and sorting out problems.....

Update:

We managed to come to an amicable agreement/solution.

Glad to hear that you guys have managed to sort it out without court cases, etc.
