Buff Posted August 7, 2007 Share Just stay away from XT chainrings, they're made from butter or similarly soft compound . My middle blade lasts an average of 6months. I'd suggest fitting a set of Middleburn chainrings if the sh*tmano's have gone south.Buff2007-08-07 04:14:

Hendrik Petoors Posted August 7, 2007 Share There is a cassete wear indicator available made by Rohloff. I have never seen one locally but I assume it can be a handy tool to have. http://www.branfordbike.com/images/tools/chain/tl4613.jpg
Thug Posted August 7, 2007 Share I've only recently had to replace my XT rings, after 18 months of seriaaas abuse.

GoLefty!! Posted August 7, 2007 Share Mountain Lion: Two teeth missing from the Big Ring is no biggy. It will keep going for a while yet. The cassette should not be too worn if it's an LX (essentially a Deore). These are heavy lumps of steel. But an upgrade to XT will shave many grams. A new chain and I'd suggest SHimano Deors middle and Inner rings. In fact I'd fit a Shimano LX or XT crankset. When the Rings wear out just repalce them with Deore steel rings for much longer life. 2008 XT also has a lovely steel toothed middle ring. Very pimp. Then maybe get lighter wheels. mountain_lion Posted August 7, 2007 Share OK, Thanks all. I will just be replacing the chain now. Big chain ring is not causing problems although 2 teeth took a beating. I managed to straighten what is left of them and have been riding like that for a while. Will consider crank set & BB replacement later.
